What is your favourite Boss Fight?

Simple enough question, Video Games used to have a lot of boss fights, not so much anymore, but which was your favorite?

For me, the Ornstein and Smough battle in Dark Souls was the best.

Very climatic after the build up throughout the Level (Anor Londo), the stakes are doubled when you realize you're taking on two bosses, the environment is cool and can work to your advantage, the boss designs are cool and the music is excellent and actually evolves with the Boss Fight as you progress.

They're also the hardest boss in the game (In my opinion).

What are your favorite Boss Fights?

I have to go with Dagoth Ur, of Morrowind. Few bosses have had me so on edge, and so exhilarated about finally facing my final foe. The way he taunts me on, as I descend into the underground, stairway by stairway, brushing his "spectre" aside, for then to enter that wide-open space where he awaits with that creepy mask. His taunts almost work on me "You think you can kill me!? I'M A GOD!" "D:" almost in a panic I run past him, go "fuckitall!" and leap into the air, aim for the bridge below, and with a focused mind, I begin to slash away at that heart, while my own health plummets.
Then - fear in his voice! I turn around, and hack away at him with Keening itself! The whole area begins to shake and crumble, and still hyped up I run for it, while the structure collapses into the lava. As I exit into the caves, my health is beaten, my stats are full of curses, I'm a total wreck! And what better reward, to be blessed (and healed) by Azura herself, for then to emerge from there - to a clear blue sky, with no more blight :'0
Truly a genuine feeling of accomplishment!

Either Psycho Mantis (MGS 1), or The End (MGS 3).

Even on Normal difficulty, the fight with the End is a bi-yi-atch. When I played on Hard, I swear I chased him around the Jungle for like 6, maybe 8 hours before finally getting him.

Fuck, this is a tough question... Even tougher now that i haven't played games for a while and forgot the ones i played many years ago. Really, i can't pick a clear favorite, can only list candidates:

Witcher 2: Leo the first fight - Two most lethal Witchers battling it out, what can be cooler than that. The fight was very hard the first time, more so when you play on high difficulty.

Baldur's Gate 2: Irenicus - An emotionless mage who can kill foes with a snap of a finger. Was a very tough fight even with a good party.

Diablo 2: Diablo - I remember when my younger brother was pretty young, he actually cried because he couldn't beat Diablo with his druid. I always loved that fight, especially when playing alone or with one other player.

Warcraft 3: Archimonde - Athough you couldn't hurt him, the mission and everything leading to it was awesome. When he was walking past my units, it was the only time a boss felt that powerful in a game for me.

Onimusha - Played the first two games about 9-10 years ago, so can't remember the names, but these games would score the highest if scored by overall quantity and quality of bosses.

Honorable mentions:

Doom 3: Final Boss

Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Final Boss

Batman Arkham Asylum - Bane

For me it was Lord Gwyn in Dark Souls. I can´t parry for shit and my build had no better way of defeating him. I didn´t actually beat him, another player did it for me. I´m doing another playthrough, and he´s not getting away from me this time.

EDIT: Hmm, seem to have mistook the thread question. Thought it said Hardest. My favorite is definitely not lord gwyn.

Hmm... In Fallout I would have said the fight with Decker; but I see this is out of all games.

I think fighting Dran. If you don't know what that is, then you'd probably not agree with the choice.

Tough pick between Senator Armstrong in Metal Gear Rising, SA-X in Metroid: Fusion, and Artorias from Dark Souls' DLC.

I know the popular pick for Rising is Monsoon, but I thought Armstrong was a challenging, and satisfying final boss to beat once you got the hang of things. It ramps up the action, and difficulty well-enough. While it didn't take me nearly as long to S-Rank his fight in Revengeance difficulty without taking damage as I did with Monsoon, it's still the fight I prefer. Not counting the version from Sam's DLC campaign. Fuck that guy. I mean, there was some satisfaction in learning the timing to dodge all his other moves, including the grab, but that still was a load of shit.

Not into any of Nintendo's franchises save for Metroid. 2D Metroid games more specifically as I tried getting into the Prime series, but got bored after a few hours. Fusion is the most linear of the 2D games next to Metroid II, but if there is anything that makes it up for it, it's the boss fights. SA-X was an exhilarating, sweaty palm inducing boss fight for me.

Artorias, I think, was the definitely the highlight of the DLC for Dark Souls. Outside of Smough & Ornstein, and possibly Gwyn, every other fight only took a handful of tries to beat them. Not this one as Artorias can be relentless, has a ridiculous range, and is strong as well; so even my character with high endurance couldn't rely as much on blocking. Especially compared to Manus whose attacks I could block all the time. It was mostly learning the timing of when to dodge, and attack. I'd say he can be as much of a pushover as Gwyn from what I recall.

Giygas from Earthbound. Hands down one of my favorite moments is beating him for the first time. The Spider Mastermind from Doom is a memorable one too. Any memorable boss fight must have good music, both of those games have plenty of that, especially during the boss fights. Difficulty isn't always a must. Plenty of great boss fights are easy. It is a struggle to recall any truly amazing boss fights these days. Jubilee in Bayonetta was pretty badass. Demise in Skyward Swords was unique. That swordfight felt spot on imo.

The first time I faced The End in MGS3 was pretty special. That's probably my favorite.

The Butcher in Diablo probably killed me more than any other boss.

That's a pretty hard question.

-The Harvester in Dragon Age: Origin's Golems DLC was nail-bittingly hard. One mistake and you wiped. It forced you to know the ruleset by heart and use your party to its fullest extent.

-The final battle in Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal with the Ascension mod installed. Almost all the big characters of the game reunited for a final showdown of ludicrous proportions. Quite hard too.

-The Batman Arkham games have a bevy of great bosses. I'd say Freeze in City was the best of the series for its sheer creativity, with runner ups being Poison Ivy in Asylum and Bane in Origins.

-Baby Panay in Just Cause 2, for the sheer absurdity of facing a dwarf with a rocket launcher while riding nuclear missiles around an island.

-The Stalker in Warframe. Nothing like gunning down mooks as usual, then having your screen blacken and proceeding to a 10 minute game of surprise cat and mouse around the level against another space ninja. Prevailing against those odds was awesome.

-Diablo in Diablo 2: Surely the hardest boss in the series. Duriel was more frustrating, but Diablo was just purely friggin hard. There's a reason almost no one ran him.

Bane in Origins was great.
Can a Whole stage be a Boss? If so, then the "8-bit" versions of the musical Levels from Rayman Legends.

Painkiller had the biggest baddest bosses...

I agree, Dagoth Ur was fucking cool. The fight was a bit lame, but the scenery with the Heart of Lorkhan and Akkhulakhan was really awesome. There's a reason my current avatar is what it is.

But, that human reaper was the most illogical thing in Mass Effect untill . . Mass Effect 3.

But as for my favorite boss fight, I don't think I could choose between all the great ones in Dark Souls. I love the Belltower Gargoyles, Capra Demon, Guelaag, even the easier ones like the Moonlight Butterfly, Taurus Demon. .
