I just saw what was probably the strangest darn thing I've ever seen happen in Fallout 2. I had just gotten into the Military Base and thought I'd test the mutagenic serum there. So I sneak behind the super mutant in the northeast part of the first floor and stick him with the needle. Sure enough, he melts into a puddle, but then immediately recomposes himself, gets up and punches me!

Maybe Ian got in your way and wouldn't move despite your best attempts, then, in a fit of rage, you injected him with the mutagen, then proceeded to turn into a mutant, like i always knew he would, and then punched you.

I doubt that screenshots would be very informative (not to mention, I have no place to host them). I tried doing that again, but this time the mutant stayed dead. I have a theory that something like this happened: when I walked up to the mutant, he noticed me, but there was that split second before he initiated combat. I injected the serum, the game ran the script associated with it, but somehow it collided with starting the combat.
