High-Res Patch v1.0 - Game wont "stay on top" ? (With workaround)

Mr B

First time out of the vault
Windows 7, 2500K (stock speed) 8GB RAM, MSI P67A-GD65, Samsung 830 SSD for OS n' sum stuff, 500GB WD HD for games. I think that covers most of it. Oh. Radeon HD 7950 (<strong>14.12 AMD Catalyst Omega Software)</strong> and a Dell 2007wfp (1680x1050) 20.1" screen.

Launch the game after the patch has been applied, works just as expected. Setting the resolution to anything above 1024x... 800 is it? causes it to flash to black, and drops me at the desktop. The game is still running. (I can hear it.) No icon in the task bar. ALT-TAB shows the icon as the game is running, switching to it flashes the menu, then black, and back to the desktop.

Workaround. Click mouse button. This seams to "lock" focus regardless of what you click on ingame, and the game remains on top. No gameplay issues (well, so far.)

Misc info. Reinstalled 3 times. From freshly downloaded GoG files, (Thank you GoG for giving away those back when.) from GoG files i had on my drive, (older version, not sure what the difference is really) and then again with the fresh downloaded stuff. I have the FOT-Redux installed this time around, but it was acting up before that. I of course have the ALT stuck after ALT+TAB "issue" not sure if that is universal or not.
Pretty much just posted this here since the workaround is so simple, if there is a known fix, great. If not, perhaps someone who ends up having the same issue can be helped by my record here.
Good luck / have fun.
B!

I had this problem on my Windows 8 PC but... It fixed itself?? Or i fixed it and forgot. :/ Anyway thanks B!

Or i fixed it and forgot.
You need to remember this sort of things. Com on, it's a easy work around, but now we all want to KNOW your secret. Share, darn it!
Edit
Ok. I know don't know what to make of this. I know i didn't change anything. But the behavior has gone away. It now launches and behaves as normal, and ALT+TAB works just as well.
Weird.
/Edit

I have windows 98'
Don't take this the wrong way, but... "And" ?
At his point your post isn't very helpful. Do you have the same issue, and want to state that it's not platform dependent, but might be hardware / driver related, or whats going on here. I'm sure you had every intention of being helpful, i'm just missing some information in your post.

Jokeing :))
Ok, now i'm just confused. Perhaps you weren't trying to be helpful?
At any rate, i need to finish setting up my HP T5530 so i can find out if it actually supports Windows 9x, so i can use it for retro activities like this. Somehow i think Fallout makes sense on newer hardware as well, so it's hardly a must have for this.
B!
