What happened to New York City?

A crater just like DC so that means there will probably be a game there in the future.

I think pretty much screwed. I thought the glowing sea was suppose to represent abit of new york ? I would imagine the glowing sea continues into new york

Bethesda's idea of a crater: not a crater but an actual location that has landmarks, people, and things to explore.
An actual crater from a nuclear explosion: a desolate wasteland of debris and the few charred remains of what was standing, if anything.

Didn't you know? The nuclear bombs in Fallout are a lot weaker allowing for all those wacky interesting locations to exist for clearing out raiders exploration and to see all the skeletons history behind them!!

New York is way too far south of Boston for that to be the case.

Are you sure it does't look too far I mean little far but not out of the realms of possibility

But I don't understand the glowing sea at all then why is the area of i guess Connecticut completed destoryed and turned into the glowing sea ? They would have no reason to nuke that area surely they would of been aiming for new York as a big city (Large population in a small area). I guess I just don't understand the glowing sea at all

Like most major cities, it's like this:

Oh, wait, no, that'll make too much sense. Can't have the players walk around nothing! It probably looks like this, but even with the bridges intact, though the crater might be there because fuck Noho, nothing is there anyway.

The glowing sea is a near miss hit of Boston, specifically the suburbs. Apparently, Boston wasn't important enough to flatten (yea right).

The glowing sea exists so players can enjoy a nuked area without sacrificing the big CLAM CHOWDAH. Makes no sense, same reason why DC isn't a big fucking crater - for the casuals who want to play in a post apoc sandbox America without much of the effects.

Not all nuclear explosion creates big crater, only those denote underground or on surface does.

Those nuclear warhead that explode mid-air (for maximum area coverage) will demolish alot of buildings at ground zero, makes a big fire, lots of EMP and gamma ray to kill everything from creatures to electronics, but leaves no craters.

The Glowing Sea is big but not THAT big. You can see the Boston skyline from the Glowing Sea and last time I checked New York and Boston weren't visible to each other. We don't know how much of Connecticut is destroyed but the Glowing Sea certainly didn't engulf it. The distance between Boston and NY is apparently 190 miles. One bomb's damage going that far down is a bit extreme, even for Bethesda.

I cant understand some city susviring but to have only the suburbs of boston getting fallten is abit ridiculous. I dunno know it seems USA should actually be able to sustain its self with major citys susviring where most of the population would be. Infact I cant think of one city that is completely destoryed tbh. I think thats some pretty big bs now.

They should just write a couple of city of an thats fine atleast it more believable that this bull crap

I'm going off on a hunch but if the USA was fighting a Maoist China, then it stands to reason that no city should be intact. Suburbs, sure, but the city cores should at least be flattened, along with every military installation.

But that would make for a boring game, thus why every city is still intact, even in the original fallouts. But there's a bit of a difference: the cores of the old city is gone. LA is gone. San Fran is gone. Bakersfield is gone. There are habitable ruins of it, but no landmarks. Reno made it, but Reno isn't an important target. Bethesda however wants landmarks. If they made Fallout 1 or 2 today, the Master and the Cathedral would be living it up in Hollywood, producing propaganda films. San Fran would be a gay bastion around the bridge. Bakersfield would still have the garnish yellow and blue sign. So on and so on.

Thus why I think NYC would still have the financial district, Times Square, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler building (maybe in a fight of two towers), the bridges, a stereotypical fifties Brooklyn, and maybe a hole in Noho for a more savage environment, but that begs the question of a full New York, possibly a new great harbor, trading with...someone. Don't think about it.
