Fallout 1 and 2 conversions: faithful or liberal?

If a Total COnversion Mod for Fallout were to happen, should it be faithful or liberal?

If a Fallout 1 or 2 total conversion mod were to be made either for New Vegas or Fallout 4, would you want it to be totaly faithful and make no artistic or mechanical changes? Or would you want some liberties to be taken in order to take advantage of modern systems and tastes? A faithful conversion of Fallout 1 on Fallout 4 would have level 21 cap and no way to play after the main game. A liberal conversion might make use of settlement mechanics, alllow you to play past the edning and incporperate survival mechanics. It could also include things like a means of transportation and those mutant hounds from the Commonwelath because it would make sense that the Master might make some of those too.

I'd like a liiberal conversion: I want a recreation to try and be it's own thing as long as it stays true to the original story. But I'd like the option to take over Mariposa and the Master's vault instead of blowing them up. Being able to repair and refurbish Vault 15 would be awesome too, even if it conflicts with Fallout 2 lore.

That's only if you try and make them open world games. You'd need to build a worldmap with random encounters and a fairly wide variety of landscapes to do Fallout 1 and 2 justice. If you can build a World Map section, then I think New Vegas and Fallout 4 are overpowered for Fallout 1 and 2.

I am not sure if the engine can do that...

I think that the best way to execute it on the Gamebryo engine would be that if every city/location is an open world environment, but the area between them would have to be unnavigable and travel could only be by warping. If a modder could program a way for warps to be interrupted by random encounters, that'd be fine.

If I were to make the total conversions, the only major thing I think I would change would be adding cut content from the games.

I think you honestly cannot make the combat of Fallout 1-2 into such an engine.

Fallout 1-2 just has 'that feel' to it.

You'd need to make serious changes but you could easily do the story I think. Then again, a total conversion means you LIKE Fallout 3 and Fallout 4's combat and 3D graphics.

Not really. I mean to be honest I do like the FPS with VATS. But even if I didn't, the reason I'd want a port is the MODS. I would love to see mods made for Fallout 1 and 2. Green mods, real animals, other encounters, small towns to protect seven samuri style, companion quests for Ian and Tycho and Katja. Something where you could disassemble ZAX and then reassemlbe him in a place where he can play chess with lots of people.

I want to MERGE with the Master. And I want sex too, especially with that pretty priestess. And I want to push away companions.
Question: with high enough speech could you convince that supermutant you're a highly advanced robot?

For F2 I want serious bugfixes pls. Like proper Vault City's two rival leaders marry ending. And antigravity gears during playthrough.
Question: the Alien Blaster of F2 is a myth, or anyone DID find the encounter?

I've had that. Finding Willy AND him having the blaster is RNG hell, so you're better off getting Willy, buying whatever he had, then editing to to be the alien blaster and saying 'Eh, close enough.' Or you could find the easter egg in the puzzle rooms on the Enclave if you have Speech tagged.

In any case, if they did make a conversion of Fallout 2, I'd want Killaps Restoration Project with Kaga set to essential until the final fight. Maybe even taking the scripting from megamod for Kaga, that would be fun. Oh and saving Private Dobbs, I so want to be able to save Private Dobbs.

Faithful in that: I don't want changes made to the lore of the games, I don't want any thematically nonsensical mechanics ported over, ect.

A player playing the game should be able to get basically the same experience they would playing Fallout 1(Perhaps with features from the Fixit ported over, but that's understandable).

A few of the mechanics can change, but otherwise leave it be.
