Can't Finish "Kill Westin" Quest

First time out of the vault
Playing Fallout 2, the version downloadable from Steam, completely vanilla.

I killed Westin, then finished the "Find the G.E.C.K." quest, returned to Arroyo, then headed back to Bishop and the only dialogue options are "I didn't finish the job" or "I'm not going to do the job".

Killed Westin with plastic explosives, which as stated here should result in the best outcome of the quest. After accepting this quest and before going to NCR, I completed all Salvatore quests up to protecting his men talking to the Enclave, but haven't talked to Salvatore yet to confirm being a made man. I found another post in this forum that suggested something akin to attacking the family that liked me most, or in other words attacking a Salvatore man, but after attacking Mason and immediately going to Bishop, he produced the same dialogue options.

Is there somewhere in this line I completely screwed up, or have I just missed a step? If further information about my quest log is needed, I'll be happy to provide info.

I thought using poison (or jet/psycho) was the preferred method of killing Westin. There are a lot of bugs associated with explosives in Fallout2, especially in vanilla. Just to be sure, you didn't accept Westin's counteroffer, right?

No, he's quite dead. So you're saying though that chems to initiate heart attack mode, or his own medicine with the doc's poison, would not result in this bug?

Dunno if vanilla or not, but Super stimpak should insta-kill Westin due to his heart problems.

Have you saved on different slots? If so, go back and kill him again :D
Also, are you super-duper sure you've killed the right guy? Not to spoiler too much, but Bishop is kill-happy, and wants you to do two very similar hits. I've sometimes gone back to him and tried to report a success after having killed the wrong guy, but that's cus I always knew sort of what to expect and do next, and simply mixed up my targets.

Otherwise I've no clue what's gone wrong. Haven't played it vanilla in years and years (Killap's mod, highly recommended, not only fixes stuff, but adds lots of intended content)

I do have different slots, but with how much I've progressed I think it's too late to go back anyways. Was mostly wondering for future playthroughs.

As for the right guy thing, yeah, pretty sure that guy in the NCR was the right guy. I don't know enough about the game to get different parts mixed up, especially considering I can't get to the second assassination due to this glitch.

But yeah, I don't really want to install mods. I appreciate the suggestion though, if I change my mind I'll try to remember Killap's mod.

Besides Killap's mod, there is also his unofficial patch, which is basically a must have. It fixes a ton of bugs without altering the vanilla content.

I might try that, then. Will it affect my current saves if I install it mid-game?

Sadly, yes it will. In fact I think all mods and patches to FO1 and 2 pretty much breaks all previous save-games. But installing the mod for a second playthrough is still pretty fun :)
