12.7mm Ammo?

First time out of the vault
Where can I find this I cant see it in my ammo making list and no shops seem to have it? I got the 12.7mm pistol and SMG and they seem awesome but ran out of ammo very fast.
 
Might try that Outpost 188 or whatever it's called. Couple dealers there.
 
Cant remember seeing any there Ill have a look. The main Gun Runners store doesnt have it and I dont think the BoS store does either and I cant make it myself :(
 
Already got me in Enclave armour and 3 minions in power armour and the other in reinforced combat armour so Im good for armour :P

Ive got most the top guns now but I like the 12.7mm pistol and not a fan of energy weapons so want to use that a bit.
 
The Great Khans sell more ammo than anyone else I've ever found in the game. Fast travel to Red Rock Canyon and head north to the first ruined house you see. There will be a root cellar right next to it, which is the Great Khan's armory.
 
It's not in the Khans village, but outside of it. There are a few destroyed wooden houses (from Fallout 3). One has a cellar.

I found that place but cannot initiate a conversation, is there some quest I have to complete before I can purchase from them?
 
Shouldn't. But maybe you need higher reputation for them. Try to do some runner-jobs from the druglab khans to earn a bit fame.

I am confirming what the dude said above me ... Not that anyone cares but that Contreas guy in Camp McCarran ... I shit you not I just bought 1276 12.7mm rounds off of him. I nearly shat my pants when I saw that many at once...
 
Yes, Contreras is your man for 12.7mm rounds, although you have to do some of that unmarked quest for him first. Or maybe just be high enough level, don't know. Alexander at 188 t.p. also has some on occasion.

Problem is, for crafting 12.7 or any other rare ammo you are required to use cases and occasionally primers specific to that type of ammo. While gun runners sell the primers, I haven't seen them sell the cases. Which means you are required to have an initial supply of ammo of the certain type to be able to re-craft it. Not only that, but your supply will keep dwindling since you don't recover cases for every bullet you shoot, even with the hand-loader perk. Which makes sense logically, but doesn't really work gameplay-wise.

Which pretty much shows that the crafting system in the game was given a lot less attention than it deserved. It's a common problem that necessary components are nigh-impossible to find.
 
Even with the handloader perk there is no 12.7mm crafting. However no need to with Contreas every couple days hell have like 1200-1500 rounds of it.
