So here's the deal ... anyone who is looking for a way to line their pockets with this ammo should have two perks first cowboy and secondly most important Handloader. The best way I've found is through this perk you tend to get casings at around 50-70% from what you fire. This is important because there is a crapton of HallowPoint ammo you can find. My suggestion is this ... Buy the HP .45-70 and use it on nothing and make either regular rounds or SWC .45-70 rounds (1.2xDAM -6 DT but 3xGun wear) I think its worth it. Since you'll have high repair make a lot of weapon repair kits ... However I now have over 600 .45-70 gov't rounds due to this method!
 
That's quite a lot of effort, I'd say. Especially that HP rounds will outperform SWC rounds up to and including 19 DT. How many enemies have 19 DT or above in this game? Not much, i'm afraid. Hence instead of shooting the ammo in the sky, use it. ;)

I can provide the math, if you wish me to back up that statement with it.
 
Actually I agree with you, lol never thought about how powerful my gun is with the x1.75 would still be out damaging by a good 20+ points on the average DT. Should of done the math. Oh well was too busy calculating how many attacks I could do with 330AP =P
 
That's because of the formula, everything is multiplicative. So after applying cowboy and better criticals, for instance, you already have a big number, and x1.75 of that number would be a really massive boost, usually overcoming the x3 DT drawback ;)
 
Well what about on very hard? Don't you do 50% less damage? Or do the monsters just do double damage?
 
It's applied as every other modifier.

so it's 75 x 1,75 x 1,25 x 0,5 for instance where 0,5 is very hard modifier, afaik.

And yes enemies have x2 damage modifier on very hard but it's applied after DT.

The quartermaster at Hoover Dam usually has about 400 45-70 ammos whenever he restocks, as well as a medium amount (maybe like 50, I don't remember) of 45-70 hollow point. In a very rushed play through the game I ended with 900 of this ammo, with my main weapons being the hunting revolver and brush gun
