8GB SD card with 1.8GB storage O-o ?

Got a 8GB Kingston Micro-SDHC card. I formatted it in windows, FAT file system and now it only shows up 1.82GB storage space.
What happened?
 
You were fooled. A large amount of flash drives you buy on eBay are hacked shitty ones that appear to have larger disk space.. Basically when you formatted it the software that made it say "8gb" on the properties went away. You overpaid for a 2 gb flash drive.
 
What he said. This is why you should only buy memory from trusted retailers. Places like eBay and Chinese vendors like DealExtreme are full of fakes, which may not have have the advertised capacity, or may have it but be as slow as frozen shit covered in molasses.

I would try formating to NTSF to be sure though..
Also, which device are you using? Some are unable to process hc (but normally they refuse to work totally in those cases)

most devices that use these memorycards can't handle NTFS.
 
I got an 8g SD card from my phone, but I haven't had the time to mess around with it yet. Hopefully, I wasn't screwed. If you and the seller are both within the US I would suggest contacting the BBB or the Attorney General (its free!). I work in consumer frauds so I deal with this type of shit all the time.
