This is a kinda fun video.

But, it gave me actually an idea. Its not a big secret that the best shows came from the US. Though I have to say that I remember "some" of them.

So who here is actually "old" enough to really remember all of those shows :O ?

HISTORY OF TV!

What has TV done for you in the past though? I mean ok, today TV sucks. But at least it was good once, no? Generations grow up with great shows in the past! Be it from Doc Who, to the A-Team, Simpsons or what ever else! Lots of great memories for sure.

How does today TV suck? In drama and comedy in the US I think we're in a golden age. Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy, Walking Dead, Treme, Boardwalk Empire... Comedy we have Happy Endings, Raising Hope, How I Met Your Mother, New Girl, Modern Family, Episodes, Parks & Rec... I could go on. There's always been crap, but thankfully thats easy to avoid.

Anyway, cool video. :)

americas Idol? America's next top model? Jersey shore?

TV sucks :p

though, the quality has somewhat increased with shows like The Walking Dead and similar TV productions, Dexter was also good and so on.

- When I say TV sucks, then I am exagerating a little. Of course TV always sucked, it just sucks sometimes less :p

MacGyver, Knight Rider, QUANTUM LEAP!

I grew up on all those shows listed, but only really because I watched a lot of Nick at Night. The oldest shows I actually consistanty watched were Bewitched and I dream of Genie. Spurts of Lassie and Mr. Ed. Only because of Nick at Night though, all of the above black and white shows were made 10-30 years before I was born.

My wonder years, local broadcasting from THE 3 networks and the once and future PBS, 'educational'.

Star Trek preempted for documentary on General Douglas MacArthur.

!958, 1968, 1978 ... 3 and a half channels and nothin' on.

Left home, movies and radio weened me off compulsive imploding T V-egetating.

All cable seemed to offer was more of the same ... potential opportunity.

Unrequited if no remote to surf with ...

Only bought a TV in the '80's to plug in a VCR and a C64.

Today the internet is my 'TV-jr.'

Not watching Beverly Hillbillies on the Internet Archive, catching up on Jean Shepherd ... ol' radio. ;)

TV is mostly a waste of time. I almost never watch it, and regret having watched it quite often in the past (well, we didn't have a pc in the household). Then again, "game of thrones" is pretty good and probably the only thing that i'm looking forward to watching again.

Mentioning the worst of today with the best of the past is a rather flimsy argument. TV has always been a mix of garbage and gold.

TV?

German TV is always dubbed. It works for movies, but TV shows are mostly bad.

We never bothered purchasing a TV here in the Czech Republic until 2009. But by then it became a habit not to watch television anyways.

Yes, I'd have to agree with the sentiment that TV doesn't "suck" nowadays, but that there's plenty of really sucky shit ON TV in addition to some really good stuff, and a horde of mediocrity. Like Mobucks, I remember most of the those shows, but not because they first aired when I was younger, but rather all thanks to Nick at Nite. Ah, those were good days...

Damn funny video though. I don't know what show that was part of, but I thought it was the classic Muppets for the majority of it, so I was surprised when it started covering Mad Men and Jersey Shore...

So indeed, there's really bad material out there. However, some of the best narrative in existence is also on TV now. You gotta choose your poison wisely.

I watch "The Soup" every week so I know all about the rubbish without actually having to waste any time on it. Without Joel McHale and KP Anderson I wouldn't have any idea who or what a Honey Boo-Boo was.

Protip guys: the Walking Dead is pretty awful if you don't take it as a straight up comedy. We're talking Sons of Anarchy awful here.

TV is at a mix of things as of late. You've got bonafide excellent stuff, like Boardwalk Empire, Treme, Breaking Bad, and Homeland. You've got decent to great shows like Justified, Mad Men, Person of Interest, Strike Back, and Grimm. Comedy has Archer, Community, Modern Family, Parks and Rec, even if the mockumentary format is piss easy and really old at this point.

Unfortunately, you have the awful pile of reality shit that the Discovery network has become. Never mind bad comedies like The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother or It's Always Sunny In Philidelphia, the really awful shit is Storage Wars, Deadliest Catch, American Chopper, Cake Boss, and all their derivatives. Shit, I'd tolerate another ten years if shit like Sons of Anarchy or Dexter to get the Discovery or History back to their roots of sharks and nazis.

Edit: and TV has universally been going downhill since The Wire went off the air.

you should take ALL zombie related movies/content as a joke (more or less) since they have become so popular now, that I would not be surprised people would do nothing even if there would be real zombies.

Anyway. When it comes to zombie stuff, the Walking Dead is one of the better shows.

Except the Walking Dead doesn't portray itself as a comedy hilarious thing, it takes itself seriously because its not about zombies it's about people. And most people take it seriously. I've only been able to enjoy it the same way I enjoy B horror flicks (IE by relentlessly mocking it while drinking heavily). Zombie anything is pretty garbage, especially at this point.

well I always have to laugh pretty hard when I see them whacking some zombies with bats, guns or what ever. :P

Again. Zombi movies are not really scary (for most people). As said, they have become very popular.
