A New "I Am Legend" Movie

Will Smith, to replace Vincent Price & Charlton Heston? oh, for the love of god...

i'll watch my Omega Man dvd tonight and swear i never heard this piece of news!

This is what a guy that saw a bit of the shoot had to say on my blog:
Last summer I lived in New York and one day they were shooting a car chase scene from the movie right in front of my place (10th Ave & 57th St in Manhattan).

Will Smith wasn’t on set, they were using a stunt driver. The street was deserted except for a couple of dusty cars (nuclear fallout?) on the curb. In the scene Smith’ character would race up 10th and slide around the corner onto 57th, tires screeching.
The car was a shiny clean red 2007 Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 with white race stripes. Very annoying in-your-face product placement! There was a dog riding shotgun.

I don’t know the novel, but after what Smith did with I, Robot, this one is bound to bomb

For the love of all gods! Another vampire-movie, this time starring Will Smith?
Even Wesley Snipes couldn't do that properly, what makes him think he can?

...

Boycott anyone?

obvious choices for me would have been:

1. Bruce Campbell :) - in fact just put him in all the PA movies with a potential for comedy / adventure
2. Jason Statham for the british rudeness
3. Mark Whalberg
4. Cillian Murphy

i personally think Will Smith is good and should work were it not for his pre-built persona which will preset everybody into not liking it ... i'm also affraid the role will be built for him with typical run of the mill wisecracks :( which is too bad because i think he has range

I just hope the smith won't do the music for it, I couldn't handle another wild wild west.

Sounds like an utter rape of the source material. But I suppose they can't let the dog die, I wonder if Will Smith "wins" in the end?

One of the problems in the story, as I recall, is that at one point our hero is becoming almost a cave man. I just can't see Will Smith going caveman like did Tom Hanks in Castaway.

George Clooney would be perfect for the role of Neville. A younger Clint Eastwood would have been ace.

In any case: the Will Smith version won't beat the Charlton Heston version. Says I.

2007: I Am Legend is directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Will Smith. The screenplay was initially drafted by Mark Protosevich and has been revised by Akiva Goldsman. I Am Legend began filming in late September 2006 and is slated for a November 21, 2007 release.

I am sure that this movie will be craptastic. No matter the film or role, I always see Will Smith as "Fresh prince of bel-air". The Fresh prince in a vampire flic ...I don't think so, not for me .

I'll pay to see this... Just so I can have the theater allll to myself without pulling a Conan O'Brian and purchasing all of the tickets.

I've read a portion of the script and I hope whoever is responsible for this profaning of Richard Mathesons masterpiece gets drug out into the street and beaten by everyone who ever read the book or at least saw the Vincent price movie with much encouragement to go for the genitalia and hands.

When I was doing research on this thing, I stumbled on a pretty sweet $15 two-pack with Vincent Price's "Last Man On Earth" and the post-apoc gem "Panic in Year Zero," starring none other than young heartthrob Frankie Avalon.

So at least some good can come of this.

Like some of you seem to know what game Fallout 3 will be just by Liam Neeson beeing in it, I know what kind of movie 'I'm a legend' is going to be.

I foresee that it probably will be an action movie of some sorts, much in style with I, robot, and Men in Black 1+2. This means a very heavy emphasis on visuals, special effects and a very thin,
if non-existant plotline & story. I haven't seen 'the omega man' or the 'last man on earth' but I have seen Vincent Price in The Raven. And Vincent Price's performance in the Raven was outstanding. I guess his performance in The Last Man on Earth) must be outstanding as well? :?:

I often find that the original movies from the 1950's or 1960's are way much cooler and better than the re-makes they make today, since back in those day the writing skills, the story & plot seemed to come first. And I think that re-make of The Last Man on Earth aka *i am legend' will fall to this side also.

PS:
What is up with the Hollywood remakes of old movies? Can't they get any new & fresh creative ideas or are they just not able to do this ?

Sounds like this movies gonna suck big style, but I'm sure the kids of today who've never read the book will love it. There's no way it can have the same sort of impact the book or the others films had, especially Omega Man being released in the 70's when there was a serious threat of something like actually happening.

It's a much better gamble to remake an old movie, or turn a book into a movie for two reasons. The main one, is it's much cheaper since the story, or at least setting is already written. Secondly because remakes, and book adaptations already come with it's own fanbase, and buzz. Not that Hollywood is aiming to please the fans, but fans of the book or original will surely be talking about this, and might go see it just to see it.

On a side note, I just saw Omega man (never heard of it before) pretty intereting stuff! I have a question about it though, is Matthius the same guy who was on TV preaching before the end?
