Age of Decadence

Technical and Tactical
Anyone have any inside scoop on a release date for this game? I have looked at the official forums and all I see is the usual "when it's ready" posts. AoD is probably my most anticipated single player game these days.

I don't think there's any inside word to be had, but I'd be shocked if it doesn't make a 2009 release.

Then again, I might've said the same about 2008 last year. Huh.

Things are looking very good for Age of Decadence: they have released lots of screenshots; they did a playthrough with fans voting in their forums to find out what decisions they should make to make (although they only showed screenshots and wasn't in real time); and they have a combat video that while not being uber-shiny certainly looks good for an indie turn-based RPG. Considering all these things I would be very surprised if the game wasn't released by the end of 2009, and I think the end of 2008 or early 2009 is a possibility. Vaporware this is not.

End of 2008 is not really an option, Vince stated so a month or so ago, saying that if he wanted to rush it he could put it out in 2008, but he's not going to rush it

I don't get something about this game: is it supposed to be post-apoc as in: the fall of the Roman Empire was the apocalypse?

It's also not isometric even though their site mentions it is. People should get their shit right with isometric. Fallout and Fallout 2 and Arcanum, for example, are isometric. Isometric = lack of perspective, but still the illusion of 3D on a 2D medium. All lines are parallel and continue to do so to infinity (under a certain angle).
AoD clearly has perspective if you look at the screenshots. It's simply top-down perspective. Nothing more.

Just sayin'. That's all.

I am willing to wait for this game to be really ready, it is probably the upcoming single player game that I am most interested in.

I don't think it is Rome specifically, but yes, it is set after the fall of an Empire.

Age of Decadence?

So when's V.Dweller's RPG up for completion? It looked like it was coming along pretty well, aside from the ugly 3D characters that looked like they time traveled into the future from the early 90's.

I think AoD graphics are pretty good! Better that Dungeon Siege and WAY better than NWN, for example, successful commercial titles.
Well, I just hope that Vince and co. finish AoD before 2010.

Yeah, I've been wondering too - but I couldn't scrape the nerve together to ask these kind of noobish questions on their forums. I'm kinda scared of that VD, I hear he's got a big dick and he ain't afraid to use it.

Anyone got an idea?

Man I had the guts to ask this... 8-) On Tuesday, yeah?
No, seriously, he said they will release a combat demo around march and that the game will come before the end of 2009. But... Though he negates, I'm sure he said in the last year that game'd come in S3 2008. Let's just hope this time the "will" will come true.

If the character graphics are better than dungeon siege then they must have drastically improved since the last images I saw of the game.

Just to clearly clarify, the character graphics are the only thing that looked questionable to me. They looked like wooden people who can hardly move, even in old combat videos I remember seeing.

But that's just the characters. The environments, gameplay, etc.. all looked/look? really good.

Trying to use past tense because I have no idea what the game is like at this point. xD

Edit: I see someone managed to find another thread and combine mine with it. xD So how come I couldn't find this thread originally with the search function? I always check stuff first.. Eh, no matter.

good news indeed, but i'm happy to see they didn't take the bait yet and are holding off to evaluate the deal when things are starting to shape up...

Atleast to be said, intresting. I also think it is good that they dont start taking the first offer given, but wait for better ones.

I was just checking on this game again and saw something that made no sense, in their updates:

"Welcome to the ruins of Zamedi. It used to be a large city, but that was before it was hit by three 1D4+1 magic missiles in a row during a decade-long war."

Either 1 point of damage in this game is like a cannonball blast, or this is the equivalent of saying, "Welcome to the modern ruins of Zamedi. It used to be a large city, but that was before it was hit by three shots from a .38 revolver in a row during a decade-long war." Must be a very fragile city eh? Made out of paper perhaps?

Just sounded strange to me. :P
