AK112 in 3dsmax

Kahgan

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
I'm making an AK112 in 3dsmax, I've gotten this far, but I need to know from those gun-nuts out there what eye-candy I can put on it. I don't know shit about guns so I don't know what kinds of stuff I can put on it to make it look less "empty"

also, I have a question about the stock; Is there a hole in it, or are my eyes cheating me? It also looks really fat, is that right too? Can't be very comfortable to shoot with it if it's so fat :?

it does look a little too fat to be comfortable, but that might just be the angle. the supposed hole looks more like an indentation has been cut out to reduce weight... those wood stocks can be heavy compared to a polymer one

The idea of AK112 itself sucks! I'm proud that Mikhail Kalashnikov invented much better assault rifles than that one.
Yes, there is a hole in the butt! ((:
Good luck with your creation!

yes, I know, but I want to make it exactly as the one in Fallout, wich is aparantly not gas-operated....and the barrel doesn't have any of the stuff from the real world AK's, I dunno why they even called it an AK112 because it doesn't resemble in any way to an AK except from stock and handguard beeing wooden...
btw, I've made some small progress on the model, I'll post it when I get home from school :)

EDIT: ok not the great progress but I've added the stock and tried to apply a crappy texture that I didn't get to show up in the render :( (note that I haven't made a hole in the stock yet)

and here is an in-max shot of how the texture would have looked if I knew how to get it to render it

Indeed, the "AK-112" in the game seemingly has nothing to do with the real rifles... At all. If anything, it looks like a boxy FAL clone. I wouldn't try to find a logical reason behind its design, they probably just didn't want an AK-47 in the game which would make more sense than this thing. - Cot

Ak-112 could be the American version of the AK-47. Easy to mass produce and maintaine. Though it should be an Armalite instead of AK.

the american version of the AK is the M-16, except we make better weapons so the two aren't very much alike.

Except an M-16 overheats and "looking at it funny" is capable of jamming it. The AK weapons, especially the early AK-47 are virtually indestructible. You can bury them for two years, take them out, and they'll be ready to fire.

Hà! They may look better, but there's a reason the AK series are the most widely used rifles worldwide. And not only because they're slightly cheaper.

Well, there are pros and cons to both.

AK's are heavier, more durable, easier to maintain, and cheaper to manufacture.

Armalite series weapons are more accurate at longer ranges, lighter, reportedly easier to field strip (although this is debatable, and I think the only reason they said that is because you have to field strip them so often that you can pretty much do it in your sleep after a while), and the 5.56mm round has somewhat better penetration than the 7.62mm.

Given the choice between the two, it would depend on what I was using it for. If I wanted to kill someone from a safe distance and could effectively stay away from close quarter combat, I'd pick an M-16. On the other hand, if I wanted a weapon that I didn't have to service as often that could spray bullets everywhere, I'd go with an AK.

But I'm getting way off topic. Your render looks good, and if you can improve on the gimpy Fallout AK, I applaud you.

Scrapper, I hear that M-16 is not "environment-friendly", and breaks down quite often. Is that really so?
As for me, if I wanted to kick somebody's ass from a distance, I'd prefer some sniper rifle. And if I wanted to "spray lead everywhere", I'd take a SPAS or a Jackhammer. Or a minigun, above all. (:

Bulk up the foregrip a bit; it should not be so cylinderical. If you want it to be gas operated, there needs to be a gas tube above the barrel to give it a Kalashnikov look (and for all the gas to go). It's the skeletal-frame looking thing above the barrel.

Where the receiver meets the foregrip, there should be a windage-adjustable rear sight. Or, since you want it to be an Americanized rear sight, just place a diopter or peep sight at the base of the receiver just in front of the stock.

Kalashnikov stocks are generally 1/3 curved and then a straight comb. If you want it be "Ameri-Commie"-like, consider modeling a Dragunov style stock (in which the wooden stock and pistol grip are merged together with a thumbhole slot in between) since Dragunov-style stocks are typically added to AK-variants to be US-import compliant.

To flesh out the receiver, I guess all you need to add is a steel-coloured bolt cover and charging handle. On the receiver, directly above the trigger, should be a bent metal strip which is the fire-selector/safety. Or, to Americanize it, copy the fire-selector of the M-16, which is merely a simple line that can be locked in three positions.

Other than that, the front of the trigger guard should be bulked up for the magazine-release catch.

Yeah, that's basically the jist of it, Rusty. Although recent desert M-16 variants have corrected some of the jamming and gas chamber problems, according to a friend of mine in the marines.

I'd still pick an M-14 over either of those guns, personally. Magnificent weapon, that.

its pretty good for something done primarily from a crappy picture from a game

and personally I have to go with the SLR or FN FAL to those from the states

Scrapper, IMHO, the M-16 rifle has such problems, because it is too complicated in construction, as it combines an assault rifle with a sniper rifle. The army has got no priority?
They say, M-14 is very efficient and reliable. Maybe. I've never seen one. There are not many in Russia if any at all...
