So, is any of you grabbing Sami Jarvis new opus? Not that I plan on owning an X360, but I was wondering if it is good.

I was excited for this game some...ages ago I think. Back when it still seemed to go to PC's, still seemed to be more of a stylish suspense and horror game. I don't quite know what the hell to make of it now.

Partly because I've completely lost interest the moment I found out that my PC won't be seeing it, partly because it seemed to be Duke Nukeming.

Edit: Changed the tense of a sentence. As it seems that it's actually there. Didn't think it would ever actually appear...

Edit: And I couldn't just leave it at that but I quickly checked some video reviews. It looks like it's become a full action game, third person FPS, with some added game play elements, such as the idea that light functions as a save spot for your character, which probably turns the flashlight into halfway of a weapon. Of course, there are still plenty of guns making it just the regular gun and run game, at least, that's what I get from the vids.

From what I've read on Metacritic, it's a fairly unoriginal TPS. So it seems we're not missing out on anything.

I recently started playing and I'm in episode 3 now and I must say that the guys from Remedy did a tremendous job on the game. Don't think it's gonna top Max 1 or 2 but that's not the point. Many accuses the game of being completely scripted and linear but I don't think of it as a flaw in this case. For me, you take a part in the certain story written and coded by the authors for your enjoyment. It's more of a movie experience I would say. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Well worth its price by my book.

better a well written story with good scripted sequenzes then a boring sandbox world where nothing fitts.

But I cant say of course if this game is good.

I badly want to play this. I've been told it has a Twin Peaks vibe about it (an old Lynch series) and I was a HUGE fan of Twin Peaks back in the day.

Exactly.

Yeah, the vibe is there I assure you.

I'm watching darksydephil's playthrough on Youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/user/DSPGaming ).

It's a heck of a dumb and cliche-ridden story. A writer suffering writer's block, wow! Light and darkness...you'd think that after the millionth time this theme would be exhausted. But no, the writers thought it so original as to be worthy of constant repetition. Whoever wrote this game has no idea how to write subtly.

The characters, including the main one, are really generic and forgettable, and come nowhere near Lynch's and Frost's. Many elements in the game are blatantly based on analogous elements from Twin Peaks, Silent Hill and the Twilight Zone. There are possibly others ripped off here. The developers would probably call it a 'homage'. I find it hard to do this, since the elements are mostly just reiterated and not transformed in some way or another.

The gameplay is even dumber than the story. It really is just your run of the mill third person shooting. To top it off, giant quantities of ammo are placed all over the game. No puzzles or sneaking or ammo conservation like in Siren or Silent Hill. Just run down a corridor-like path and kill anyone that gets in your way. Darksydephil is a couple of hours into the game and the only enemies so far have been crows and a horde of identical axe-wielding men.

Also, I thought they promised open-world gameplay? There's been practically none of that so far, apart for the obligatory collectable-searching. The latter come in the form of manuscript pages (with rather poorly written content, I might add) and coffee thermoses. Dale Cooper would love this game. Or perhaps not.

On the bright side (LOL, get it? soooo original), Phil's humorous running commentary makes me want to see more.

Ah, and before I forget, the physics are funny. You can move huge logs just by bumping into them.

fedaykin,

you really have a problem with this game, don't you? :)

Haven't played it yet myself so I don't know if AW is any good, might be bad but, you know, we get the point.

I don't like it, yes. Is that strange?
Watch the playthrough I linked to. That should give you enough info for a purchase decision.

Yea ok. It probably isn't good but being Finnish I was kind of hoping for it not to be a complete dud. No chance of that I guess. :|

Does it really matter from which country the game developer comes from?
Plenty of British or American development houses that make utter trash.

I recently picked up this game called The Precursors which was developed in Ukraine, I feared it would be something like a lemon but to my surprise it is in general pretty good, a combination of Deus Ex, car driving, and space ship flying.

Sounds interesting but I can't even access their main site ..

No problem PainlessDocM

The game deserves a little more attention than that it is getting now in the Western magazines and websites.

Hello Crni Vuk,

Yeah that is ingame music.

With all the responses it might be better if a moderator splits this off into its own topic.
