An intresting moment from Fallout 1

First time out of the vault
Just decided to sweep through fallout 1 again on hard and see how it feels to kill everything hostile in your path.

Anyways, under the Cathedral when you actually run up the Masters corridor without the Psychic Nullfier(or what's it called?), some weird stuff starts to happen. Crazied thoughs run throught Vault Dwellers head as he takes step after step, resulting in actually hit point damage.

I read all of the phrases, and it seems that Vault Dweller had a female close friend which"is now dead". Followed by some stuff about you seeing how worms start to fall out of her or something like that.

My question to everyone is, did the Vault Dweller actually did have someone who has died and was close to him or is it just the side effect without wearing the Psychic Nullfier?

Maybe the Fallout Bible had something mentioning about this?

I only vaguely remember that. It hasn't happened to me that many times. Last time probably in the last millennium.

I remember that the living walls in the corridor started to talk inside VD's head, he took some physical damage and lost his eyesight. I don't remember anything that was said there, though.

It'd be interesting to read the text file or something of that event.

They're illusions, and the female is in no way significant. It could be anyone from back in the vault.

Yeah it's just the flesh on the wall crying out to scare you in desperation. I remember even though there was no graphic animation to show for it the text scared the shit out of me.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

I can't actually remember how did it all happen, but I remember the feeling I had when it happened. I was scared as hell.

It's interesting how some piece of text can evoke such a horror in a person.

Does anyone know where I could read it (outside the game)?

Yeah, they did a good job with the text. I got a bit freaked out too.

I don't know where you can get that, but the whole text has about 6 parts. The one about a deceased friend was the most unordinary though.

I read the post about that text and I indeed remember it to be very freaky. Since I didn't have anything else to do I loaded a save game and went to the cathedral to read it again. For your comfort I wrote it down:

* The hairs on the back of your neck rise. You feel something from the corridor ahead. The bile rises as you recognize the mass of flesh ahead - human parts in the wall itself. The worst part is that it is moving, calling to you.

* Your nose starts to bleed. You hear voices in your head. They are calling your name. Darkness washes over your eyes for a moment, but you recover.

* You were hit for 5 hit points.

* A voice calls to you. You turn your head and see the image of a forgotten friend, obviously dead. The worms fall from her rotten jaw as your headache grows.

* You were hit for 12 hit points.

* It is getting harder to move forward. Your foot seems to be bonded to the floor. You look down, and the flesh of the floor is crawling up your leg. Teeth gnaw at your knees. Still your headache gets worse.

* You were hit for 22 hit points.

* Something catches your attention, a flash of movement from the ceiling, and then a silver bone pierces your eye! With it comes the thoughts of the dead and tortured.

* You were hit for 18 hit points.

* The pain in your head is maddening. You feel the sins of others wash over your soul. And it gets worse, as your sins answer them. Like madmen, they fight through your psyche, and in the process tear your personality apart.

* You were hit for 1 hit point.

* Your head is pulsing with the intrusive thoughts of others. The pain grows and grows. Suddenly, as if it never existed, the pain vanished. You fall to the ground and weep. But something does not feel right.

The text was actually shorter in my memory, but then again I am glad i wrote it down. I also wrote down some of the stats that occurred:

- Perception went from 10 to 4
- Intelligence went from 10 to 9
- Eye damage
- 58 HP lost

I hope this will satisfy you :P

Right after all of that happened to me, I used about about 10 stimps and 2(or was it 4?) Mentats. I wanted to take on the Master with VD's point of view - not bullets. :D
