Animated Tiles

There are these animated water effect tiles named shore01.frm through shore10.frm. I am using them and they look great. I'd like to figure out how to modify the colors, and make some east-west shoreline tiles. But how do these things work? If I convert them to gif they are not animated. And if I view them in an FRM viewer they are not animated. I remember a thread some time ago that talked about some special encoding that is used for animating some scenery like terminals but I can't find that thread. Does anyone have any technical detail on this?

I'm still confused ... on your site anchorite shows an example of C code tweaking animated colors ... but I can't do C code on FO2, does this mean the code that animates the water tiles is hardcoded in the engine?

Yep they are. So if you use any colorIndex from 229-254 in your .frm file the engine will animate them.

There is no way to create totally new pal animations with Fallout 2.

Like modmaker said, use the Frame Animator, you can make animated tiles, or anithing, im making a new combat armor, with the vault suit colors, for a mod im triying to make.

I mean I THINK it'll work. You can easily open (for example) all critter ANIMATIONS. If you're using stupid converter like FrmConverter, than you cannot open animations. Only first frame.
Do you understand me?

oh just seen this, but this is how they work

There are animated "colours" in the fallout palette, if you have one of these colours in a FRM the colours wil 'cycle' through that set of animated colours.

I'll see if I can get a screen shot to prove it.
