Another remake - Forbidden planet

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
Of Forbidden planet this time. You can find it here

Micheal J. Straczynski is writing it. If he can pull off a 'Babylon 5', It may well be worthwhile. But we will have to see if it lives up to that.

I liked Forbidden planet. For it's time it had pretty incredible FX and the story wasn't bad either.

They also say that Event horizon was a remake of Forbidden planet. I don't know about that one though. I've seen both and there aren't a lot of similarities.

No offense but I am sick of remakes, how qualified the writer may be.
Leave classic movies in the past and try to make new classics instead.

I totally agree but the times are what they are and we need to deal with wath we get.

Very well, I will give Micheal J. Straczynski the benefit of the doubt and will wait till I can see what he has come up with.

I take it he will at least not go 'I Robot' or something with this.

in somewhat unrelated news: Ridley Scott bought the rights to a (belgian comic version of) Aldeman's FOREVER WAR.

imo, one of the best space warfare scifi books ever written.

i don't really know why he'd buy the comic version, but whatever. never read it myself, but it's still very stand-up from what i've read about it.

On a side note,

there are plans to do a Voltron movie, a remake of Robocop in 3D (Oh god!!! ), a Robotech movie (personally it has been make and call Macross Plus, basically Top Gun in space). Seems like Hollywood is strip-mining those 80-era pop culture. :?

There are also remakes of When Worlds Collide, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Andromeda Strain, Logans Run and iam just waiting to hear about plans to make remakes of Silent Running and Colossus: The Forbin Project.

My eyes...they BUUUUURN!!!

he used one of the most novel revolvers ever designed, but due to use of way too weak blanks, it didn't function properly... woe is me... :(

otherwise a fun movie ^^

I wonder, is there any 90's culture they can resort too once they have milked the 80's dry?

It's too easy to come up with sequels/remakes then there is coming up with new material.

Same stagnation is in the video game market as well.

well, there's evil dead being remade(although i heard that it was probably scrapped) akira and cowboy bebop are being made into movies(one is rumored to star *shudders* keanu reeves of all people) also thundercats and he-man. Fuck even the dark crystal is getting a sequel.

Remakes are just rehashes of old ideas or niche cultural icons.

And yet there isn't a goddamn Teddy ruxpin live action movie.

In a logical world they would remake movies that were bombs the first time around, since they didn't do it right. As it is they're remaking movies that were done right the first time, and so don't need to be remade.

They should remake Body of Evidence, The Love Guru, and Krull, rectifying the mistakes.

Why do they do this! Another remake? Leave the classics alone!

I mean, with so many good novels out there, why can't they just make a good movie out of a good novel?

Welsh, you know why they don't make much books to movies, some simply demand that the audience takes time to immerse itself into the stories and the characters and not look how cute the blond with the big boobs in the skin suit is.

Some more popular books are simply to brainy for the masses, the dumbest members wouldn't be allowed to enjoy the movie like the smarter people (read; people who actually read, and investigate matters to form their opinion) do , and that really isn't fair to them.

I for one want a "Ringworld" movie, I would not be angry if it combined elements from "Ringworld" and "Ringworld Engineers" as long as the story is good.
But as the story is not about fighting evil aliens (though sex is mentioned here and there), or making the world save for US democr... I mean just making the world save, most people would dislike it.

Plus they would probably think that Ringworld is ripping of Halo.
Those schmucks.
