Anyone ever read this?

It's pretty damn cool.

I had it recommended to me once, but now with a second random recommendation it just jumped up my need-to-read list.

I read the Zombie Survive Guide, but had to pass over this- no time. Looked good. I did read through a few sections.

Max Brooks is the son of Mel Brooks of Blazing Saddles/Young Frankenstein/The Producers/Silent Movie/History of the World- fame.

I saw Young Frankenstein...

Scared the hell out of me! best horror movie ever, hands down!

How was the Zombie Survival Guide?

Yeah, I have heard about it too. Might be a good read, I hear there are actually some nice black humour cynicist bits in that one.

It was a pretty good read. Thing is its actually a combination of short stories "witness accounts" so each story is pretty short. I would have preferred a big long story from beginning to end detailing an apocalyptic zombie invasion.

Now "Cell" from Stephen King was a damned good book. The only thing I didn't like was how the phone crazies were portrayed towards the end.

I for one loved it, the humour was excellent an very dark at times an the book it's self read like a serious guide to surviving a Zombie attack, think of it like a Vault-Tech manual.

I agree, its a lot of fun. Max Brooks is actually doing a parody of all survival-type guide books by playing on the zombie/horror genre. It's pretty good, and often quite funny.

The chronology of zombie outbreaks is pretty good. Some of the instructions seem worthwhile. For instance, avoid suits of armor as it basically turns you into canned food. Avoid cars and motorcycles for the bike (zombies don't run).

Agreed, I loved the classifications of aboutbreaks such as:
Class one) Minor Law enforcement an civilians can control the out break.
Class two) Law enforcement an army are needed to contol the outbreak, lock yourself inside an barricade the door's.
Class three) Welcome to the end of the world!

Its great that some one brought the humor back to the the zombie culture.

while this is satyrical, do realise that many zombie stuff discussed is often a simple way to discuss civilian uprising while staying off the Fed's radar.

Er. Where'd you get that from Suaside? On the subject of zombie novels, does anyone know any good ones? There isn't a great deal of good zombie literature (I'm reading the monster series at the moment)

But that's not that unusual. Sci-fi/horror films have often been used as forms of protest.

The Planet of the Apes films were largely about the problems of racism in the US and explored other relevant themes throughout the series.
