anyone remember this?

I never believed that Fallout online was actually every going to get released.
Plus if I remember correctly it was being developed by Interplay, which led to them outsourcing the development to another studio which was against the agreed upon terms for the project. Then they folded and lost the IP rights to Bethesda.

Did I miss anything?

Either way it is lost to the void of time long past, best not to dwell on it.

That does look pretty cool ? Maybe should't of been an MMO however this would of been better than fallout 4 at least.

Bethseda mad elder scrolls a MMO whats stopping them from making fallout 4 an MMO

I have been playing Fallout Online for years, so i am not sure the fact it wasn't published by Interplay or Bethesda does really matter. Ho yes, it does. It is free and has no micro-transactions.

The one people could play was unofficial and kind of under the radar. Had the official MMO taken off, I am sure Fonline would have received a cease and desist order.

TBH, the game was kind of a joke. The devs were dead set on making it open PK, all the time, which only encouraged people to be total twats. The mantra whenever people got pissed was, 'the wasteland is harsh'.

Eventually, the amount of new and casual players ran out. This led to the 'the wasteland is harsh crowd', to turn on each other. Ironically, the same folks who were the assholes started bitching and moaning how the game was sooo unfair.

I remember when the new flavor was super mutant artillery, or gangs would setup mutant allies with rockets at the entrances of towns. This got so pervasive that the devs were forced to make the super muties more expensive.

Lesson was, if casuals or new people complained, they could go fuck themselves. When the twats started complaining, they got catered too. Fuck Fonline.

There is a bane of PKing in many server, but also a slow path of progression from a low level loner to a team member with more success, which mean you get to progress for a whille. Also, there were several RP projects like the one with the Redding citizen which were pretty awesome.

You should also try Ashes Of Phoenix that correct a lot of issues with the other servers and is much more casual friendly. On the other hand, it is disregarded by the massive hardcore PK crowd.

So true.

I know I played it for like 5-6 years. I still login into Reloaded sometimes... but I can't stand it anymore. Its such a toxic community and there is so much hate going on there.

Maybe I will give Ashes if Phoenix a try if I can get some people together.

Just how like some pvp groups like red dot were too weak tto beat super mutie artillery? Solar and Izual wanted to nerf bank interest? That was the only way for casuals and small groups to make caps reliably.

We could have used faction points to buy mercs but noooooooo, we had to cater to big gangs and wanted a server wipe, just to make them happy..

LOL, wasteland can be harsh unless a big gang gets offended, then they bitch and moan and we will wipe the server for them.

As far as I can remember, we only wiped the server when a specific backend update has required it.

It might have been towards the end part of the era but that is besides the point.

It was a very long time ago but the reasons still stand.

Bank interest, for example, was the only way a small guy really could earn caps. At that time, we had PKs camping all the vendors. If not PKs, then it was assholes planting dynamite on you or pick pocketing you, while you were helpless on the vendor screen.

Then came a TC glitch and some gang made a shit ton of caps. They bought a fuck ton of super muties. Other gangs like the rogues or red dots started noticing their e-penises getting smaller and so began bitching and moaning (there was a whole fucking thread dedicated to it).

Instead of changing the cost of mercs from caps to something else (something I, AKA, Keldorn, suggested), Izual was like 'WIPE is a better idea along with a nerf on interest'.

So yea, 'the wasteland is harsh', is great for little guys. Big gangs get fucked over and we seriously need to re-balance shit.

Raynor,

The mechanics were just dumb and actively encouraged PVP over everything else. Remember when people formed blue suit cripple teams so they could rob people with ZERO risk?

Then you had crafting, like a 2 hour BA cool down along with even more cool downs from gathering mats. Who would wait for all that when you can just gank someone for theirs?

This pretty much insured that the economy, crafting, and trading aspects, were pretty much ignored in favor of just mindless killing AKA Beth Fallout.

Once again, i suggest to try out AOP. It much much easier if you are a loner, a noob, a casual or simply fond of fair play and longer fights. You are automatically part of one of the main teams, there is next to none team killing, it takes more punishment to die (if you can't defeat your enemies, you still have chances to outrun them. No silly instant-killing.), there is a lot of exploration, most of your ingame actions offer some kind of reward, you aren't required to have the best character and best gear to join zone control, and you can have some effective gear without relying to much on crafting.

I will go ahead and give it a whirl, as it has been a while.

Are the people who did 2238 still responsible for AoP?

Also, what is the population of AoP? I remember 2238 back in the day would peak at 300 at night, U.S. time, but full load was like 5 or 6 hundred.

AOP population is less than 100. Probably even less than 50. But they are all in public HQ or in the big city. Less scattered.

Anyway, there is something like 4-7 different servers, all handled by different teams, with more or less differences. But most servers kept the same basic premise of the first two servers that were released. The one i am advertizing is the only one, imo, that has such big differences, not only of map, but basic premise, player interactions, gameplay etc...

Problem is that it came late. Many of those who tried and weren't satisfied by Fonline 2238 or TLA aren"t likely to try it out another server today. And those more used to them don't want to leave their comfort zone.

I actually hoped on AOP with a buddy of mine. Its great and all but I don't like how combat is handled. I don't do very well in RT, I'm very much a TB player so it kinda kills it for me. But other than that its really cool server. Wish there were more than 5 people online. We joined with the V-Techs and got base and platoon setup too.

But as naossano mentioned above. The reason I keep going back to reloaded sometiems is because I am already familiar with everything and how things work there and I don't need to spend time figuring things out again.
