What started out as the location of some fireworks ended up turning into Krusty the Klown's meeting his own daughter last sunday night. That's the simpsons.

A thread about a plothole observation turned into a philosophical debate about communism, a spellcheck request into a flame war about Canada. That's NMA. Who knows what THIS will become?

"Worst episode ever". I've been watching Simpsons for only 1.5 years, but even I can say: Simpsons definitely going downhill. Yes, the 'crazy evolvement' is still here ("Only my husband could become a food critic and become a target of international assassins" Marge Simpson, approximate quote), but Simpsons become more and more like Futurama, which I enjoyed only because of creative "future stuff", like Ma's Robots.

And yes, if the thread will grow more than 20 posts, it will end up on God only knows what topic (Dumb Thought About Chainguns is a freak of nature).

I've been watching the Simpsons since they started on Fox, and I'll tell ya that the first 10, 15 minutes was the funniest it has been in a long time. But oh well.

It is the logical though process of the human mind: Plotholes and communism, spellchecks and Canada.

Yup.. I think I've nailed it.

What I like, and so did my highschool English Teacher, is all the hidden allusions to literary works and stories. They're like "inside jokes" if you know them.

What I don't like about British comedies (I just saw a bit of Red Dwarf) is how shallow it is. I mean, any sap off the street can get the obvious jokes and the stupid plotlines. Like on that Red Dwarf episode, the subordinate does some stupid elaborate salute where he just keeps curling his hand this way and that. The "humor" is so stupid its insulting.

Do you mean that episode where the simpsons get a horse and use it for horseraces. And where the jockeys turn out to be little elves or something ? I didn't like that much.
And Futurama is really great. Like the suicide booths and stuff

red dwarf is really average stuff, and there are many shallow comedies that come from england, but they also have brilliant and intelligent stuff.

for instance, there`s an hour and half of britcom on our tv on saturdays, but it`s not shown in the comercial tv, but in the cultural and elitist channel 2 (a public channel), that shows operas, theatre, films "de auteur", and debates of intelectuals and scholars (and the simpsons, you`re right, we can`t just scratch the surface on that one, it`s way too rich for that).

RE: LOL....

I been watching the simpsons for many years (I've seen every episode :) I think it was a ok episode. It was not extremly funny, but it also wasn't boring. The simpsons is easily the greatest animate series on tv.

The valiant never taste of death but once.

Like I said, Futurama is more inventive, but the humor is from the average 'comedy'. Simpsons' humor is more intelligent and sarcastic. Homer, for example, doesn't always acts like a total dumbass, while Fry is stupid as a fry all the time.

Yeah, I'm sure there are, but of what I've seen that has filtered into the United States (Red Dwarf, Red Green, Mr. Bean, etc.) you'd think that English sitcoms are written by ten year olds. What is even sadder is how some people, of which I know of some, embrace these comedies and find them not only funny, but extremely funny.

My friend was raving about the show Mr. Bean and invited me to watch once. What I saw was overly predictable, stupid repetitive physical humor that only made me chuckle to not offend my friend. TINY TOONS has more sophistication.

I'm sure my opinions are biased because of what makes it to the USA, just as many Americans believe that all Anime consists of are saucer-eyed characters that always go "huh?" when they notice something. It all depends on what filters in I suppose.

RE: LOL....

Well....everything is connected in some weird strange way, ever seen Magnolia, or played teh Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? (Magnolia was not surreal weird (like Being John Malcovitch) but it was real world weird, I guess thats why I liked it.)

By the way how is your flamer today?

HOW DARE YOU INSULT MR. BEAN!

Damn you to hell for insulting Mr. Bean! How dare you!

How can you *like* it? It is so... so... STUPID. I mean it rates down there with Red Dwarf. It is so predictable, if you see him do something once he'll repeat it five or six times for "effect" (whatever that may be). And then there is the gag where he ducks under the table, seat, or whatever and appears where he's not supposed to and slinks away. It is just so STUPID.

RE: HOW DARE YOU INSULT MR. BEAN!

I hate Mr Bean as well and I'm from England where nearly everyone likes hime for some reason.

RE: HOW DARE YOU INSULT MR. BEAN!

-great britcoms:the "league of gentleman", that one with the two bitches and the intelectual daughter, don`t remember the name, and ...two others that i don`t remember the original name, gonna check it out, damn :-(
-true classics: older ones, like "yes minister", "black adder" (with the guy that does mr. bean, he`s a brilliant comediant, that mr bean thing is just a litle weak, o.k.,it sucks :-) sorry 8-ball) and *reaches for the anti-flames armour* "monty python`s flying circus"...

oh and "faulty towers"

RE: HOW DARE YOU INSULT MR. BEAN!

The League of Gentlemen was a true classic.

Whatever. I still like it.

Yes, Black Adder has got to be one of the funniest shows ever made.
