They tried similar solutions for wounded soldiers - an enclosed stretcher with a filter attached to it.

It does not work; you fill the enclosed space with the air you exhale. Your exhalation is not forceful enough to force the used air out of the enclosed space, nor is your drawing of what you hope to be a fresh breath strong enough to actually suck in new and clean air.
