Atomic Ninjas talk Fallout 3

It's the silence before the storm. Of shit. :p

Nice read, though. I love the picture on which Vault Boy looks like he's punching the guy in the face. :D

There are repetitions for sure, and other small mistakes. This thing was very hard to produce, I had to put tens of caps and change thousands of small details, and the last week of discussions is still missing. If you find some glaring mistakes do report them, please.

There's a French translation coming up in the future, cool.

There's alot of stuff written. Must have taken Briosafreak forever to prepare it all. Wonderful job by him and great read for everyone since the questions and answers are all on important subjects.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Good read, heck of a compilation. It's wonder that they haven't released anything on the protectron as this seems to be an element that everyone can agree is damn slick.

News does seem slow. Beth is letting little out. A shame. I expect the vast majority of the PR/Ad budget is slated for 08'.

that typo was in the original article too. and i'm not surprised it popped up in the forum threads too. :)

good stuff :P

also...i like this typo:

"Well, I *think* one of the NPCs chatting in Megatron was a woman"

Just consider it a tribute to Transformers/Beast Wars

Megatron, terrorize!!!

You and SuAside should get married and make lots of anal kiddies.

Nice read, although a little... superfluous, maybe?

hey, it's the only thing we've done together in like forever.

cant help it if the information flow from Bethesda is so meager that our little escapade actually remains on of the few worthwhile sources of info. ;)
besides, reading the profiles @ beth is far more despressing than reading our stuff. which is saying a lot! :s

Its a bit off topic but it has to a bit with Bethesda.

I read on a Dutch Gaming site that the people at Bethesda are rather fond of Portal.
While nothing is wrong with that of course I do hope they don't get the disastrous idea of adding something like the Portal device in Fallout 3 as all the other 'cool' games are doing it too.

Thanks for compiling.

But anyway, real time and VATS both use dierolls for chances to hit. Doesn’t matter if you poke the mutant’s eye out with your laser rifle and pull the trigger. If your energy weapon skill is 10%, you won’t have much a chance to hit the bloke.

What was the evidence for die rolls in real time? That was contradicted in the Community FAQ, so it might be incorrect/redundant now.

Todd in the Community FAQ said:
A good example would be the antennae on the ants, they are way too small to realistically ever want to use your AP on, but we up the hit-chance on them and it just plays better. So in real-time, you almost never hit their antennae, but you can do it more in VATS. And that’s the key “behind the scenes” difference between VATS and real-time, in real-time the bullets just go-where-they-go, based on your skill, the gun, and some randomness. We don’t calculate a hit-chance and roll dice against it. In VATS, we calculate a hit-chance and roll dice. If you succeed, we send the bullet right for what you were aiming at, and if you fail, we send it off slightly, meaning it should miss, but we still let it hit whatever it hits, so you can still miss a guy’s head and end up shooting his chest.

Which is why I am still unclear on the details of the real time accuracy mechanics, and keep going on about wobble etc. I originally assumed that there would be a consistent system, but these comments suggest that there are two parallel systems if I am not mistaken.

well, yeah, it's contradictory.

"based on your skill" but then "we don't calculate a hit-chance and roll a dice against it".

i always assumed that the accuracy with said gun depends on the gun itself and your skill with it. while in real time he doesnt roll hit dice, he does roll to see if the shot goes straight or if it goes wide. a wide shot could still hit too, so it's not a simple hit-roll.

that's how i saw it and understand it by combining what Pete & Toddler said.
