Barebones Playthrough

Mr Krepe

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
My next playthrough I decided i'm going to roleplay as a tribal new to the Mojave region (Legion ending of course), anyway to the point. To replicate a more tribal barebones feeling i'm going to play hardcore, with survival as a tagged skill, I hope to produce most of my own supplies (food, ammo, and the sort), but does anyone else know how I can further replicate this 'feeling'. I was toying with the idea of not gambling, and avoiding major towns, but it seems unpractical.

lower your INT and don't put a point into speech.

Use only light armors (no PA) and stick with melee/unarmed/guns as weapon skills.

Well I would take it one step further than that and only use food to heal and no chems. If you insist on using guns than only use very common ones like the 10mm pistol and cowboy repeater avoiding mods and handmade ammo.

you don't need to side with the Legion as a tribal, actualy the other waay around would make more sense. Also you don't need to lower INT, better lower Charisma and ST, put points in EN, PE and INT, if you have the PC version you can download a mod that lets you choose the Zion tribes as a race (you need Honest Hearts too, of course) they also give you the tribal outfits at the begining.

I have NV for PS3, but i'm *getting* it for PC. I was thinking either Legion or House, as tribal guy could follow legion out of his tribe being assimilated into the bull, or the tribal thinking House is a god or something along those lines.

I would like to know how being a tribal could mean having lower intelligence, charisma or strength.

Charisma? well charisma regulates how you comunicate with other wastelanders, if you are used to speaking another language, one that is basicaly a simplification + combination with another language like the tribes of Zion you wouldn't be the most articulate guy in english, that's why I said lower Charisma, I also said strenght because if he is going for a tribal that would join the Legion he would be one that needs to join them for whatever reason, and making a END + ST combo seems too conventional. I don't see why lower inteligence, no reason at all. I alctualy said to give him more inteligence.

When I get FNV off steam i'll make sure to get this tribal mod, I noticed some of your pictures of your character on the post your character thread; you a white leg?

Nice name, once I get my tribal character up and running i'll try to put some screenies on the post a character thread, but to make him look like a true tribal I guess I need to get me some tribal armour from Zion.

The mod I used gives you a clay jar with the armors and even a playable version of the dirty hair wig they use for the White Legs inside Doc Mitchell's House.

Mind it may be a while till I get FNV for PC (poor at the moment), until then it's PS3 tribals for me.

This seems like a really fun way to play through the game, I'd suggest using just raider armour until you get to honest hearts and obtain their armours. you could also make your character slowly become more literate and intelligent as he is more exposed to the "civilized Mojave". melee and unarmed are a must.

I was thinking my build would be something like this:

Strength: 4
Perception: 8
Endurance: 6
Charisma: 5
Intelligence: 5
Agility: 8
Luck: 4

I was thinking agility and perception could be high, because he could be a scout, and the high above average endurance, is due to his natural endurance levels because of living in the wild for most of his life.

Tagged Skills:
Melee
Survival
I can't think of a third one yet.

Well, if he's a scout, then sneak would be obvious possibility for the third tag skill. I played a build somewhat like this when I did a melee character, although I didn't bother limiting my selection of armor or skill point usage. I figure a talented, adaptable tribal would use any advantage he could get. Of course, I got the tribal pack with my game, so it was an obvious choice.

This is the first time I read that Charisma has to do with speaking languages and communicating with other people. Charisma is not just for communicating, it allows you to have influence in others. Tribal elders and war/hunting party leaders would be characters with high charisma.

Also I'm not sure if the tribal character wouldn't speak English well. I'd think he would be able to speak it if he had been in contact with English-speaking communities.

I also said strenght because if he is going for a tribal that would join the Legion he would be one that needs to join them for whatever reason, and making a END + ST combo seems too conventional.

Hmm. I'm not really sure. I might be wrong but I remember Caesar talking about the tribes he conquered and saying they were "primitive", etc. If the player character was a tribal and was physically weak, I think Caesar would consider him some sort of lower life form.

Yeah, a tribal playthrough sound fun. So far I only roleplay as a cowboy, bounty hunter and mobster. Maybe I'm gonna try this too.

charisma Influences Speech and Barter, two skills that need good communication skills.
And yeah a Tribal could know english, the same way a CHaracter that would be interesting to play as a non combatant could have learned combat skills, so what's the point of roleplaying a special kind of character if you are just gonna make him a regular guy, that just happen to be tribal in your head?

One thing is "to know English", and another things is "to have good communications skills".

A very charismatic tribal might get what he wants with words even if he is not the best English speaker. Because Charisma is not about how many English words you know, but about how you use them and how they influence other people.

If you don't know enough of a alnguage, no matter hwo eloquent and charismatic you are you are not gonna convnve of anythign to a speaker of said language. You need to know a language to communicate with peopel that speak it, quite simple.
