Best computer setup Evar.

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
I have nearly completed the first computer I've purchased since 2002. It will be my new AWESOMETM gaming computer, and the only thing left to buy is the processor.

I just included it in the setup I have in my room, and after rearranging some things, my room looks like this:

room09122005label1yw.jpg

A: A 15 inch monitor services Computer #1
B: A 15 inch monitor services Computer #2
C: A 15 inch monitor services Computer #3
D: A 17 inch monitor services Computer #5 right now, but as soon as computer #4 is ready it will service it.
E: A 15 inch monitor that will service computer #4 once computer #5 is running.
F: A color 5 inch TV I got at Value village for $15, manufactured in 1980.

1: A server tower from 1994 that I use as a file server.
2: An old 100MHz from 1996 that I use as a file server.
3: An Dell from 1996 that I use as an old games machine.
4: My new AWESOMETM gaming machine that just needs a processor. When done, it will have:
Processor: AMD 64 3500+
RAM: 1024MB PC 3200
Hard Drive: 186 gigs (200,000,000,000 bytes)
Case: Badass
A DVD burner
5: My current main machine, after I take a hard drive and the ram out of it for my new machine, it will have:
Processor: AMD XP 1800+
RAM: 512MB PC2700
Hard Drive: 55 gigs (60,000,000,000 bytes)
A DVD ROM
A CD burner
6: My Clock Radio that I've hooked the headphone jack into my sound system, but the time set buttons don't work completely.
7: My other clock radio that I CAN set the time on, but the radio part stopped working.
8: My switch
9: My router
10: My modem
11: A mess of power cords that has about 25 plugs going into one outlet, but has yet to set off a single breaker somehow.
12: An old sound amplifier from the 1980’s that I use for my sound system.

All of these machines are on my network and running. I don't know why, but I actually prefer using old makeshift technology to new stuff, even if I could buy the new stuff.

Because it's fun to tinker with stuff.

Also, why don't you have any videocards?
And why do you have two fileservers, yet still use a seperate router and a seperate switch? Throw a DHCP server on one of the fileservers, and let the switch do the switching.

Oh yeah, the video card in my AWESOMETM gaming machine will be a Geforce 6800 Ultra. (It's in my main machine right now.)
The next best video card I have sitting in a drawer is a Geforce 3 that I will put in my main machine.

The reason I have a switch is because my router only has 4 ports, and in addition to the 5 computers in my room there is also my mom's computer and my sisters computer that are on the network. The reason I have a router is because the fileservers would be less reliable (the old hard drives could go at any minute) than a router.

amd 3500+
400 fsb w/ pcix slot mb
3 gigs of pc 3200 ddr ram
nvidia 6200 ultra 256
adaptec 2130 slp
seagate cheata15.4k rpm 36 gig hd on above card
3 more above hds in raid 5 setup

going to be getting a dvd burner that fits on my card and a 7800 gtx and a newer 21" crt still to get.

Heh, I was wondering when someone with a better machine than me would show up. :P
I'm going to work on getting more RAM next.

Your room is in such a mess. If your mother was anything like mine, you would soon come back home and find your stuff in a box on the front porch.

All that and you use such a crappy chair?
I got that chair for $15 at cash converters and I love it. The chair part is one piece so the back will always stay upright unlike a modern office chair after a while. The whole thing can rotate backward so I can "tip" on it without actually tipping on it.

I propably shouldn't ask this, but...

...what's the function of the roll of toilet paper?
It cheaper than kleenex when I need to blow my nose. Yeah, that's the only thing I use it for. :look:

Hrmmm I must say I'm impressed... though I always liked the setup in the movie Pi :). All the same... I'm jealous :-p
The old stuff I got for free from various sources. You can get it if you know where. A lot of business just throw old computers out when they upgrade.

Hehe, this is the yellow table on the third side of my setup:

Calcy, I would HATE to be the person paying your electric bill with all that equipment.... christ, how many watts per month are you drawing?

Sweetness. At work I have two computers side-by-side... one is a computer for regular stuff and the other is a test station with mouse, KBD, monitor and speakers to test and build systems for people to work with. People come in and I will fake like I'm typing on both at once to screw with their minds.

Love the setup. Too cool.

Yeah, I can't wait untill Computer #4 is actually RUNNING though. Also, the windows 98 on computer #3 is fuct, but I haven't gotten around to formatting it yet.

Then go move out of the house, rat-boy.

I couldn't ever have two servers running in my room, though. Too much noise. Unless you've spent money on quiet cooling solutions.

Also, you might want to consider throwing out the router and letting one of your servers do the routing. It'll spare you a mess of cables, and will probably give you more control (and more stuff to tinker with).

Besides, I would hardly call this an awesome gaming machines. That's a budget-minded gaming machine. Although the processor is a bit more expensive than that.

Uh, I bought the video card last year for $485. I'd hardly call that budget.

Is "The Movies" game any good???
It's pretty fun I guess, if I wasn't so bad at it, it would be better. It's something you play two weeks and then it sits on a shelf.

nice setup... but you should invest in a lcd monitor, there much better and not that expensive anymore

I would never go back to a crt monitor ever...

If you are into gaming, the CRT monitors are kings.I've yet to see an lcd monitor capable to even come close to an average CRT when it comes to games.

I have to agree with that, as LCD monitors have limited resolutions and look blurry if not set at the max resolution. I can also get old 15 inch CRT monitors at Value Village for $5 each.
