Best looking mod I have seen in ages

God damned spectacular, but I wonder why Valve hasn't slapped them with an copyright infringment lawsuit yet?

Maybe Valve is just nice and not a money grubbing corporation like the rest?

Nahh.. that can't be.. the world's too unfair for that. :P

This thing has been in development since 'bout a week after Half Life 2 was released.

I don't think it'll ever see the light of day. It's kinda like the KOTOR II Restoration project: no way a mod that has been in development for so incredibly long will still be released.

I have been watching this for some time now. It makes me tingle in my special areas, as I love the original Half Life the most.

They made them change the name from Black Mesa Source to just Black Mesa I think. Something about removing any confusion about whether it's an official product or not.

The way it looks like, it could be a official product.

Hey, I'm still hoping for that...

Oh who am I kidding that damn thing is never gonna be done.

So what is that? An exact remake of Half-Life with the HL2 engine?

That's ridiculous. Why would anyone want to waste their time doing a thing like that? That's like doing an exact remake of, say, Hitchcock's Psycho, but instead of shooting it in B&W, you shoot it in colour, but you don't change anything to the script, camera angles etcetera. Who would do such a thing? And why?

I know. Don't tell me.

Well it seems to be a better fleshed out world from the trailer. The people walk around/lean against the wall and seem more realistic in general. The scripted sequences look awesome, with the big neck snake monster killing the scientist. I can't really tell, but the weapons look different from hl2, so there is some variation.

BTW there is hl in the source engine made by Valve (I think), so this probably has even more differences.

Yes but that just reuses the exact same graphical assets from the original Half Life, so it looks exactly the same. All you get is Source's physics really.

This... the thought of playing this...

Sorry Alec, but for some of us playing graphically updated versions of our favorite oldies just holds a great deal of appeal. Just like the thought of playing a PS3 remake (without any changes besides the graphics, an updated (or at least the same as the PC version) localization, and *possibly* anything that was meant to be included but was cut only due to time constraints) of Final Fantasy VII...

Well there are some minor graphical improvements, namely same water as in HL2 and some minor reflections in some places, but yeah, physics are the main improvement over original HL1. I still thought it was nice of Valve to do that, definitely made me play HL1 couple more times.
Black Mesa mod is something I've been anticipating for a long time now, I hope it gets made.

Black Mesa is taking so long primarily because the dev team is addicted to Eve Online. That and decent coders are impossible to find.

cool mod, I just... don't care for that story line anymore... I've grown quite tired of it.

Wouldn't you play an exact remake of Fallout with hi-res sprites and/or Van Buren engine and/or Troika post-apo engine? If someone came out with such a thing then I would be surprised if that didn't become the de facto version that Fallout fans played and they only pulled out the old version for nostalgia.

I would. But Fallout is a RPG, while Half Life is and was a FPS. If they just change the graphic, why should I play it again? If seen it all, nothing new in it as it seems.

Anyways, graphics look nice, except for the weapons/firing animations
