Biological goo in the LA vault?

How come there is strange biological goo in the Masters vault? Is it supposed to be people or creatures the master absorbed? It'd be really interesting if anyone has a theory or explanation.
 
As much as I like Woo's take, I think you were on the right track, coldroll. My impression was that the goo was The Master, a manifestation of his further development and evolution through, among other things, his absorption of the biomass of other life forms. If he'd been allowed to continue with his goals, I'm sure he would have spread to blanket the entire interior of the L.A. vault over time (and what a hopeless beast of a boss battle that would have been).

If that happened he could've just killed the vault dweller as soon as he entered the boneyard! :lol:
