Bioshock 2 Video Walkthrough.

Ugh. They really don't have any design or setting reason for the Big Sisters, just "OMFG LOOK HOW COOL GWEEEEEEE!" I already expansively loathe this character, even before the "she wins"-cutscene, which are always lame.

Otherwise it looks ok. Same great graphics and design. And again they present the whole plasmids-gameplay as complex and full of options. However, in BioShock while the options were there, they tended simply not to be the best available solution, and you could just skip 'em. Heck, it was better to just blast away with direct-attack plasmids and guns then set up complex traps.
This unlike other "psychic powers" FPSs like Psi-Ops.

It's also interesting that they seem to hint that they plan to make adam (XP) and character development more relevant. That'd be cool.

Looks a tad too spooky for me.

Eh, so did BioShock, but the game is too easy to really scare you.

I have a strange relationship with Bioshock, like by the time I finished the game I was "full" and excused myself from the table, satisfied for sure but not in a rush to revisit it. When I changed harddrive I never re-downloaded it from steam and at this point I might get psyched for the sequel when it gets closer but right now Im not too happy or annoyed by the idea of a sequel.

The only thing they could do with Bioshock is expand on the "factions" they promised for the first game... I got the idea that it was going to be a weird society with you in the middle but frankly it was very much you vs the world. Still I would love to see rival gangs of splicers duke it out while you stealthily walk by or even have you pick a side in the conflict and be rewarded by for your new and uneasy alliance.

I agree with you BN regarding the reasoning behind the Big sister other than for the whole "cool" factor.

The first one had a good back story in my opinion, but the second one doesn't seem as fleshed out, although obviously we haven't seen much.

Hi guys,

Did any of you get bored while Bioshock 1?
I downloaded (through STEAM, so no warez) it around the beginning of the year and I must say, around the time I reached those gardens I was bored senseless.

I no longer cared about Rapture and the little sisters, splicers, Big Daddies or Atlas, all I wanted was find a way to get out of this place.

The setting and action kept me going to the end, but after I finished it I was totally done. It is a great game but if it was modable there are more than a few things I would change.

meh.
Bioshock wasnt all that great.
It was okay, but really wouldnt call it amazing or give it more than 83 at most, mainly because the gameplay wasnt intresting (style trumped gameplay) and only few plasmids were usefull.
And the fact that the much toted "choices" were so shallow/non-existant. And i disliked the hacking minigame.
And it was EASY. Boss fight was a dissapointment.

Ill stick with the System Shocks for fun and challenge.
Bioshocks can go and die for all i care.

Yeah. About the spook factor. It was spooky until I realized you never die. At that point instead of playing through on normal and then going back through on hard (that's just my method), I just started a new game on hard. Finished it. I haven't played since. Still a pretty game.

I will probably play 2 (if I have some way to do so that is) finish it. Put it up with the other in it's special little foil box.

EDIT: One of my biggest gaming pet peeves is not dying in a game. That's becoming more popular in games these day and degrading my love for gaming in general.

Patched version of Bioshock does have an option to turn off vita chambers. However I agree, game bored me to death too near the end, and the last boss was a joke. I never wanted to play it again after I finished it for the first time. I have a feeling Bioshock 2 would bore me even quicker.

I think developers stop implementing 'player death' in games because apparently a group of gamers feels it as a punishment.

Personally I think it should be made an option but not removed.

What also pisses me off is the constant hand holding, if I need some help or are stuck to the point it gets frustrating help is appreciated, but it shouldn't be given constantly.

System Shock 2 was awesome, but its Deus Ex for me :P

Yeah, I rather a game that is tough but not punishing (Prey did that for me) than a 1 hour game extended to 10 due to constant re-loading. Bioshock was somewhere in the middle, It was not THAT tough and and I rarely had to respawn unless I did something dumb... but respawning did not fit the theme as well as they would have thought so it did break the game a little for me.

In the end I do consider it one of the better games that came out that year, but just not very replayable due to the lack of choice. Yeah, the game is an allegory about lack of choice in games, but it still ends up being what it pretends to be.

In my opinion Bioshock became boring in the end. Instead of creating new and interesting slicers they just upped the health on the existing ones. Ones with Telekinesis or Hypnotize Big Daddy or many over plasmids and gene tonics would of been interesting.

i quite liked Bioshock 1.

and i'm looking forward to n° 2. the fact you're a big daddy doesn't surprise me at all, considering how popular they were.

i do think the the big sister is a bad choice for a 'bad guy' though. especially the scripted sequence shown it too heavy handed and takes control away from you too much.

i got half-way through the first game before i realized the story was advancing slower than the actual difficulty meter. it's as if they thought they could make up for lack of ingenuity by making enemies tougher and quicker.

the ol' arcade trick.

*yawn*

It looks ok. Don't like the "Big Sisters" too, but at least the world looks pretty again.

If there will be a collector's edition again, I think I will buy it right away... last time I bought the normal version and later the collector's edition just because of the Big Daddy figure (that looks pretty cool on my shelf).

/Edit: And yes, the end of BioShock (1) was very lame.
