Black Isle Bummer...

Kadu

First time out of the vault
Shit happens, but we get over it sooner or later. Sure, I was pissed off, just like all of you. A friend of mine (who I had met while on a trip to Comdex) was a big fan of Black Isle. He loved them and his favorite game was Planescape: Torment. Well, whether the game is good or bad is up to the person who plays it. We all like different things. Personally, I thought it was interesting, to say the least. Never really got through all of it, though.

Anyway, now to the point of the message. This friend, who was hoping to intern at Black Isle before their demise, had an idea. It sort of came to him when he got that fateful email from a Black Isle exec saying they were just about to see if he could come down for an interview for that internship when they got canned (Mega bummer). As my sig points out, I am a student at UAT. My major is 3D Modeling and Animation and his is Programming. We got to talking about a lot of shit and he asked me if I would be interested in starting up a company, basically doing the same games that Black Isle was doing. I said "Sure, why the hell not?" and thats how it all started.

Now for an analogy. Lets say you're eating a steak, its a good steak, but then all of a sudden you got a piece of meat stuck between your two front teeth. It bugs the shit out of you for hours until it finally comes out and then its all better again. Black Isle's demise sucks a giant wang, but maybe from those ashes comes something good. Who knows, maybe the games we make, we'll be the games of your future. Then maybe our parent company will fire us and we can all shit on them when they release a game in our name that is hated by 90% of the community. Bet all of you can't wait!

I'll be graduating in about a year and a half. We'll see where it goes from there. In the mean time, eat a sandwich.

First, I'd suggest that if you two ever decide to do that, I would hire someone else as a writer.

Second, if your ability is anything like your attention to detail and ability to recognize design aspects of a game, then you've got a long road uphill.

Give us a ring in 10 years, after you've had some real experience or end up working for some cheap console company.

so because black isle died, you two are going to become a great game company... hm
we'll see
(I hope this was constructive enough)

gotta love your optimism there dude, but you have to stop and think about what your saying, to make a game as "huge" and diverse as any RPG your going to be a very lonely person, even FPS games take a year or so to consieve and thats by people in the business already but then they are using hte unreal engine most of the time, hehe,

but hey if you have the conviction go for it, strange things happen, hey who would ever think tony blair is still in office!
