Black screen on multiplayer startup

Razorcurst

First time out of the vault
everytime I play multiplayer on gamespy I get the black loading screen and nothing happens. I've let is sit for several minutes and still nothing. I have Windows XP 2.6 ghz Radeon 9600 DSL (256k I think) I've tried turning off my firewall completely and all the compatiblility mode settings.

I checked, it said there was 12 people playing on GameSpy Arcade, though the last I knew people were having extreme difficulty in logging in there.

I still believe that it has been dropped, at least in part. Anyways, who wants the AOL of gaming on their box to begin with? Best to make internet games and try that way. If you can get that to work, the the most likely suspect would be the GameSpy Arcade virus.

Well, everyone else I have checked with is able to play via gamespy and my in game browser has failed to connect even with an IP.

Aren't the people who you checked with able to give you some tips? If they can magically do it, surely they can tell you how?

Did you just install the GS software that came with FOT, or have you updated to the latest version?

It's not Firewalls, Question. I'll have to go with the Gamespy excuse. That or buggy game. Check it for scratches.

i had this problem too when trying to load it. They (those on gamespy actually gaming) told me to instal new patches but this didn't work.
It works in LAN, but thats totally different. IF you knew yours and others IP addresses that might work as well, because Tactics has that in game (which works).

Problem while trying to play in multiplayer.

I have a serious problem. When I try to join a game through GameSpy Arcade (FT doesn't detect servers from multiplayer menu), the game hangs up on black screen, and it doesn't respond. The only way out of this situation is ctrl+alt+delete. Some people told me that this happens to them sometimes, but it happens to me ALWAYS (out of 20 tries, all 20 failed), I have the 1.27 patch, I don't run any mods, I tried disabling firewall, nothing seems to help. I don't have any problems with other games. Single Player works fine. Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks, I didn't see this topic when I posted mine, and I was in a hurry and couldn't search.

I had exactly the same problem Xan; when you say you disabled the firewall what exactly did you do? I had to manually turn off norton and select disable "antivirus auto-protect" thus leaving my pc far too open to attack for my liking but enabling me to play tactics.
Still, the whole thing is seriously underated unless you can convince people to play with less totally awful rules. If you figure out the problem, and you don't like how the others play, PM me and i'd like to introduce you (or anyone else) to the Awesome WW2 mod. Its so much more balanced but it needs more people than me and my little brother to be fun :P!

What do you mean by manually turning off norton? And to answer your question, I disabled window's built in firewall only.

Black screen is popular problem and there are many ways to fix it:
1) Make sure you closed all firewalls;
2) If you can't close firewall go to settings and allow Fallout Tatics to connect at all;
3) There is a firewall in Windows XP, you need to turn it off... go to your connection settings and find it there;
4) Make sure your FoT ports are open (read instruction), if not then open them with proxy or contact ur internet operator;
5) Make sure you got 1.27 patch;
6) Make sure your Fallout Tactics works on singleplayer;
7) Try to connect by IP... if it works then its GSA fault... reinstall it and change some things in options/games/, it usually helps;
8) If you got something like celeron 300 and 64mb ram then you have to wait 1-4 minutes to connect game;
9) If it didn't help, then change your internet operator :).

Im sure it will help...

I'm having a very similar problem. I'm on the verge of despair as me and a friend have been attempting to play with eachother for quite some time and every thing we try fails. Here's a list of what we've tried :

- Hosted with router; FoT ports + DMZ (player B can see my game, connection failed)
- Other person hosted with router (No game visible)
-GSA route ; player B can join other people's games
-GSA route; Player A gets Black screen + sand clock
-Opened al GSA ports on player A & B ; no avail.
-Tried DEMO. Same problem, Player B sees player A => Connection Failed
-Player A formatted; all ports opened ; no firewalls; no NORTON stuff => same problem
-Player B hosted without router / no firewall

Please...PLEASE someone know the answer, for it is driving me up the walls!

High end specs. Correct DirectX and same version.
Now, last night I jumped through a few hoops to get hooked on the internet without my router , this allowed us to play together (direct Ip'd) however, I can't always do this since more people than just me must have acces to the inthernet so I can't always hog it for myself when I wanna play!
Also takes a few hours before IP is refreshed on my router after I plug it back in :'(.

You have trouble with any other games through that router? Sounds like you want to get onto technical support for the router rather than the game.
