Blue screen during fallout 2 installation

Question

First time out of the vault
I double click the setup.exe file and all i get is a blue screen on XP SP2, ATI radeon 9000 using omega drivers.

Manual install works, but is glitchy.....the intro movie doesnt play correctly and when it gets to the main menue i cant even see it, its either a solid green bar covering the middle of the screen or a wild mish-mash of colors.

I split every post in this thread and vatted it because it has about as much to do with tech help as my grandma.

I'm...kind of confused what Question has done wrong. He's read the stickies and supplied the necessary information. He's searched but apparently can't find the solution to his problem. For that reason, all strikes in this thread are revoked. Yes, that's unusual, but I'm kind of failing it see the issue here.

Oh noes teh internet-stuff asides, any posts from this point onwards in this thread will either to give Question an answer of his issues via a link or via the post itself.

Seriously.

Have you tried using a DOS emulator to install it? Eg. via DosBox?

I recall that Fallout can run under DOS.

You recall half-correctly, there's a DOS verstion (fallout.exe) and a Windows version falloutw.exe which requires at least Win95.

Urgh.

In any case:

- What (if any) patch are you using? Does it correspond to the version of your Fallout game?

- What (if any) compatibility mode are you using?

- What (if any) video hardware acceleration are you using?

- What (if any) sound hardware acceleration are you using?

- What (if any) problems did you encounter in the manual installation?

- Is your video card enabled or disabled?

And, if you really want to go for a 'normal' install, then copy the cd contents and set the compatibility mode of the setup.exe to Windows 95 or Windows 98.
