Borat Movie

So, who had a chance to see it? It was pretty tough for me to find tickets. All the evening shows were sold out around my area. I managed to get some for the midnight showing last night and that one was sold out 15 mins later.

As anticipated, it was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I originally thought that the movie was basically going to work like an extended Ali G episode with Borat exclusively. But actually all the vignettes come together in a unified plot, which really pushes the movie's humor to a higher standard from the TV show.

I'm sure many would say they did not need to see the whole naked hotel room fight, but the grand finale of that scene is probably the funniest moment of the whole movie.

The soundtrack was excellent and as I expected there was a decent amount of Balkan music (mostly gypsy stuff, Goran Bregovic).

Other thoughts?

Yea i just saw it.

I liked it allot :)

I think it had some downs and ups, maybe would have been better as a serie.

Good soundtrack and some very good scenes.

Loved the one when he payed the "jews" :D "Give them more!" hilarious.

Also when he held the speech for the "cow boys" :)

I wounder how many scenes that where directed and how many ( if any ) where natural... The weather guy for example did a very natural response.

Best quote:
B: Do you want to marry me?
P: No thx...
B: Consent isnt nesesary! *throws a sack over P*

I have not seen the movie but I heard about the cowboy thing ages ago, they had to escort him out because someone was going to shoot him.

yeah the cowboy part was pretty scary. but I think that probably was the only part where the audience wasn't laughing their asses off.

overall a very funny movie easily worth seeing on the cinema. 9/10

Apparently Mahir Cagri who created the website with pictures of himself in the late 90's wants a cut of Borat's success, as he thinks that Borat is "stealing him".

Interesting article :P

Borat just got banned from Russia (the first official post-commy movie ban, i believe).

No, actually, it was only "marked" as "Not recommended for distribution".

"Hey look the Uzbekistan embassy! Fuck you Uzbekistan you mother-fuckers!"

Please go see Borat movie, if it not success, he will be execute.

"We decided to not take airplane should the Jews repeat their attack of 9/11. "

The movie really was a great success, despite poor initial expectations. Still #1 after 2 weeks and a total of $68 million. Seems amazing that some reviewers thought it wouldn't even break even ($18M).

If you liked the music, don't hesitate to get the soundtrack. It's really a great compilation. Diversify your collection!

EDIT: Article on the real people in the movie.

Unfortunately, it sounds like everyone who appeared in the movie is trying to take him to court for a bigger cut. Ah well, such is america.

Meh. Going to cinema to see this is quite a bit overdone, but you can rent it later for a laugh.

- "Are you a Muslim?"
- "I'm Khazakh, I follow the hawk."

Seeing it a second time was not as great as the first. I think it has something to do with everyone impersonating him all-of-the-sudden. Damn it.

I'll only see it so I know what people are TALKING about. Other than that, I'm not impressed thus far.

If you want to know what's real in Borat you should have a look here

The Scene: Borat appears on a small Southern ABC affiliate
Where: Jackson, Miss.

Borat wreaks havoc at Jackson's WAPT, standing up every time he spoke, forcing the camera crew to scramble to avoid waist-level shots; offering up his sister to the silver-haired newscaster conducting the interview; interrupting the weatherman during a report by wandering on to the set.

What happened: A story in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger quotes station general manager Stuart Kellogg as saying, "We were gotten. Our folks researched the production company, which has its own Web site and sounds legitimate. They did their homework, but not well enough. It seemed plausible that he was who he said he was," Kellogg said. "Who knows what an accent from Kazakhstan sounds like?"

The story also reports that Borat's visit led the station to upgrading its policy on researching guests and on building security.

Another story reports that Dharma Arthur, the woman responsible for booking Borat on the show, says she lost her livelihood because of the incident. "I spiraled into depression, and before I could recover, I was released from my contract early. It took me three months to find another job, and now I'm thousands of dollars in debt and struggling to keep my house out of foreclosure. The upsetting thing is that a man who leaves so much harm in his path is lauded as a comic genius."

Sympathies any one...?
Didnt think so

I saw it today with the missus and I have to say that I am not very impressed. Sure, I had a laugh now and then, but most of the humor is kinda cheap. Big hype, small content.

Should've done your job and maybe not booked an English comedian that's been famous for over 7 years on your show as a serious guest. Stupid bitch.

Good movie, too much titslapping, but Cohen had to do something to please the low-level intellect on the yanks.
