Brian Fargo and Wasteland

Kotario informed us of an IGN preview of InXile A Bard's Tale, with comment by Brian Fargo. Near the end of the article, it has a side-note about the possibility of a future Wasteland title from InXile:

Just as a side note, considering Brian Fargo's heritage and the rebirth of The Bard's Tale, we just had to ask him if there were any plans for a possible Wasteland remake before he left. Brian stopped, smiled slightly, and said that InXile wanted to focus on one or two titles at a time and that The Bard's Tale was their main focus at this point, but didn't fully say that a remake of Wasteland would be out of the question.

Well, the remake of Bard's Tale doesn't look too interesting so I don't have big hopes for the new Wasteland game either. Still, now that Fallout has gone the way of the dodo, any post-apocalyptic game will get some attention from me.

Agreed by the letter. I don't hold high hopes for Wasteland either, but meh...you never know

Same here - Wasteland + the BG: DA engine doesn't exactly get me excited. With the Silent Storm engine, though......

Eh. I'm still going to keep my eye on it and hope that they end up making a great game instead of another Gauntlet clone.

I still hold out hope for Fallout 3 to be made sometime, somewhere, by someone. Even if its 10 years from now, long after Interplay's extinct. Never say never.....

Fargo posted on RPGCodex a while back where he said that he wouldn't do to Wasteland what he's doing to Bard's Tale. Anyone else sick of these "spin-offs" made with the Dark Alliance engine that have nothing to do with the actual franchise outside of the name on the box? What is it now? Four going on five?

Am I the only one who doesn't like the DA engine? Its such garbage with a crappy field of view. I DON'T LIKE IT. Any game that uses that engine, or a variation of it will automatically get overlooked by me. I did, however, like the infinity engine. I don't think a good thing can really be overused. The DA engine, however, being bad, was overused after the first game.

Infinity engine still rocks for me.

You can't blame engine for crappy, uncreative games.

I can blame it for being a bloated, inefficient engine with absolute garbage for pathfinding, AI, and many other aspects that would make an ethical programmer cringe. Much like NWN and all the issues that it still has that aren't all readily noticeable to those just playing the game.

If it weren't for D&D, BioWare would have likely gotten the shrug a long time ago from a technical standpoint.

I'm not getting my hopes up for Wasteland, heck i would be happy even if it was old-time style... 8 colors VGA graphics, with a good storyline, freedom to do what i want and long enough gameplay.

*crosses fingers*
I hope Bards Tale dies painfully and they decide to do Wasteland as a true turn based RPG.

Wasteland on the C-64 rocked everything! ^_^

So looking back, there are still much C-64 games
that still are getting you longer over the time
then games of nowadays, gameplay is the
magical word...

Bard's Tale is the greatest CRPG ao all times,
but no, what I saw from the remake till now,
there is not a faint feeling of hope in me.

Nah, me thinks I will get these boxes from
the shelf and search that C-64 Disk with Wasteland. :D

...From the fogs you see the legendary RED RIDER...
somehow like that it was...
:ok:

There is only three things that I want out of WL2.

1. That they don't FO:BoS it. That they keep the setting true and correct to the original and don't rape it or prostitute it like they did with you know what.

2. That it has an interesting and good story coupled with the expansiveness and non-linearity of the first.

3. That the gameplay isn't too painful. A little painful could be tolerated, but too much can't.

Wanting anymore would just be being picky. I would play any style of game so long as they observe the above points. Whether it be action, realtime or turn based.

The funny thing is if they did make it quite like the original, then it could be ported to many of the consoles. The combat system isn't too far from those found in most tactical console games. It just needs to have the same setting, the same good characters and puzzles, and then put into a system that would be good for both console and computer. In fact, in using a mouse movement scheme, it would lead well to an analog joystick. Otherwise, if the gameplay is similar, it may lend well to consoles.

Hopefully they wouldn't do like some and make fucked up interfaces like other recent games of note. Yeah, hopefully.

Hopefully they'll use the same "setting"/story.

While dated to the extreme... I think if they fleshed it out it would work quite well.

That's assuming they are remaking wasteland and not just making wasteland2 or wastelandPOS

A time ago I did awake from a dream of elemental evil, reading a review of the 'new Bard's Tale' before,
remembering the beloved classic series on the C-64, nearly had a heart attack.
But it was still in the dream, Wasteland 2 was on the shelves, and it was remade like they did it in The Bard's Tale...

At least there was still me bottle of Jamaica Rum to escape...
