Did anyone beat Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance?

IllusiveManJr

First time out of the vault
I gave up halfway through mission three because it feels archaic, much like Duke Nukem: Forever. The voice acting is bad, the lip syncing hardly ever matches up, monotonous sub-boss and boss battles. And the one trick pony AKA free-blade mode got old the by the end of the second mission. The story feels like a throwback to an 80s action film.

watcht a 3-hours-play on youtube. Does that count? (wanted to see what the story is like).

What an garbage game as far as MGS goes, seriously.

I have no clue what kojima was thinking when he agreed to that. I mean sure, you had always action in MGS, but MGS Revengeance? Meh. Looks like there are really no decent stealth games out there anymore.

Maybe you shouldn't judge a game as a stealth game when is obviously a Spectacle fighter? And also maybe you shouldn't judge a game by the first three missions...

It's Archaic because it has a rather innovative Mehanic that lets you cut enemies into specific Pieces?

I could spend a lot of time writing up about how much I actually enjoyed the game.

But then I realized that it's not going to change anyone's mind who doesn't like it.

C'est la vie.

I'm just going to go back to play it through on Very Hard now.

Honest question, what difficulty level have you chosen? And unless you are playing with Japanese vocies the lip syncing does match up. :S

It's awesome, I agree. :)

Man, what a garbage role-playing game Fallout Tactics is.

It's a spin-off (That's why it's called Metal Gear RISING and not MG Solid), MGS5 is on its way.

I like it a lot too. Best final boss in a looooong time.

I guess thats why it continues directly after the patriots.

Anyway. I am not saying you cant have fun with it. But all that over the top action is a bit to much in my eyes. Oh yeah, let him lift buildings and objects which have a few 100 tons! Using a knive of the size of some building to cut trough an object with the size of some building.

Cyborg or not. But I would not be surprised if that is now the direction MGS will go ...

Then again, MGS always had a lot over the top elements. Like the singing / screaming robots in Peace Walker with their super AI, which totally doesn't fit into the time period or robots with dinosaur screaming, all these supernatural boss dudes, etc.

Spin-offs are supposed to be inherently non-canon or something, now?

I heard this kind of complaint numerous times and I still don't understand if it's selective amnesia or what.

In MGS1 Gray Fox withstood the weight of Metal Gear Rex. In MGS4 Raiden breakdanced with Gekkos tied to his legs and held back a huge submarine many times the weight of any metal gear (hell, it STORED them within) even though he wasn't even on solid ground.

But lifting a Metal Gear? Swinging around a piece of a MG that's a fraction of the weight of Outer Heaven? Oh, no, that's ridicolous.

But I would not be surprised if that is now the direction MGS will go ...

MGS5 takes place in the 70s, no cyborgs there.

You don't know yet. Peace Walker is set before MGS5 and even there we already got super robots of all kinds. :>

Peacewalker is set in '74, ten years after MGS3 ('64)

The AI's are pretty ridiculous, but as far as the MGS universe is concerned, I can totally buy Metal Gear robots in '74. MG1&2 were supposed to take place in like, the 90's and MGS1 was in '05.

sure, not complaining about those, lady luck, the vampire, solidus etc.

Maybe its just me, but vengance takes it all to "another" level to speak so. The last boss fight alone ... Kojima Productions was responsible for it and its somewhat pretty clear where they got their inspiraitons from, like Bayonetta and Azuras Wrath as the game feels pretty close to them in gameplay.

what do I know? I always thought its some kind of MGS5 or what ever ... its not like I am THAT used with the continuity of the setting ... particularly after MGS Sons of Liberty, where you know I thought "hey Snake!" and then its all about Emo Raiden. The game was still pretty good. Just saying ... its an spinoff, nice. Just as far as gameplay goes not what I expected from an typical MGS game. I also though that the story was a bit flat.

The game is sure fun in all it does. No doubts!

yeah but doing that every 10 min? Was MGS3 really THAT over the top? No clue. Never played MGS3. You know, I am not complaining that its an aciton game, as said previous MGS titles had those moments as well. Fighting endless waves of Metal Gears in MGS2 or what ever. Thats not even the problem as long its not the CORE of the gameplay. I always enjoyed the MGS games for being stealth games in its core. The newest MGS game seems to be quite far away from that. Just saying.

MGS is always about stealth but like many people have said, Metal Gear Rising is not a Metal Gear Solid game. Once Raiden went cyborg he's gone the one man army route, as it states in the intro to the demo mission "this isn't a sneaking mission". Metal Gear Rising is just taking the character we saw in the MGS4 cutscenes and making a game out of it. It's most interesting that the game was intended to be a prequel to MGS4 but the fans demanded a sequel (which is funny because making MGS3 a prequel was far and away the best thing the series did).

Pretty much this. In MGS4 we saw Raiden do crazy stuff only here and there because it wasn't his game, but when you have a whole game based around him personally I expect crazy stunts on a regular basis.

and this where we differ. Not the kind of entertainment I seek with MGS and why I think its garbage as far as game experience go. Of course thats just MY opinion, and I totally respect the fact that it is rather on my end and not really a fault with the game. I guess we agree that we disagree then?

Sure a great game, for the people which like it. Just not what got me hooked up to the MGS series in the first place. :D

Crni, Revegeance is not MGS. It's MGR. They're taking the established universe and characters and making a spectacle fighter out of it (which I think is dumb, personally).

The next MGS is 5, which is Ground Zeroes I think. More Big Boss and Major Zero squaring off I guess. It looks interesting.

I still love that they made Zero the grand villain. Does anyone remember his Codec calls in MGS3? This is a man who wanted to make Naked Snake a folding, snake shaped gun that could fit into an attache case. he's so adorable.

If I remember correct, Ground Zeroes isn't really MGS5, it's a prequel for MGS5. Well, except if they changed this stuff again... No idea, not really following it.

Have to say, I like how they pulled off the story with MGS4. It felt quite strange to me, how things went from MGS1 to MGS2 and then they includet all this stuff from MGS3... but with MGS4, they fixed it all to make some sense.

yeah, 'sense' is what I'd use to describe MGS's plot any day of the week. The games are totes fun, but if they make true sense anywhere outside of Hideo Kojima's head, I'd be surprised.

(Kojima really needs to hire real writers at some point)

I think Ground Zeroes will be Metal Gear Solid 5, Snake's story ended with MGS4 but remember that MGS3 was a prequel to Metal Gear universe. It's fair to consider Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and Peace Walker as mini sequels to MGS3 and Zeroes to be the first full sequel. I assume they'll continue to make mini sequels covering the 70s and early 80s and perhaps MGS6 will cover the late 80s.

It makes sense that they released Peace Walker on PS3 in late 2011, especially if they plan to make a direct sequel (Ground Zeroes) available on console.

Kojima also expressed interest in a Metal Gear world war 2 game with The Boss and the Cobra Unit as the main characters.
