Dos Version of Fallout?

I was wondering do all these restoration projects and patches work for the MS Dos version of Fallout 1 + 2?
I ask because I can get fallout to run on portable devices that don't run Windows.

I don't think so because RP and many patches now rely on Sfall which needs directx.

Well will all 3 fallout games Fallout 1 + 2 + Tactics, work under Dosbox?

As far as I know, only Fallout 1 had a DOS version executable; This should run under DOSBox and probably on your portable.

Are you sure? I know Fallout 1 and 2 run on the same engine so why won't it run under DOS?

Yes we're sure, and no, it's not the same exact engine. Fallout 2 and FO:T were never released for DOS.

Is it so much to ask to have a laptop that is hand held and runs Windows and has gaming controls? Like a UMPC only running Windows.

In fact some Fallout 1 distributions lack this feature. GOG and Trilogy for example. And moreover, semi-official patch 1.2 currently is Windows only too. Therefore 1.2 based mods won't run under DOS emulation. The situation with the patch soon to be changed. But for now DOS habitants are limited to the vanilla game or Fallout Update mod. With or without a flavor of patch-independent weapon modifications.
