21-04-06 14:55

Hamburg, Germany: April 21, 2006 – ANACONDA, German publisher dtp’s adventure and RPG label, reveals one of the most exciting RPG projects of the next year. Set for release in the 4th quarter of 2007, Drakensang: The Dark Eye, designed by Berlin developers Radon Labs, will be sure to enthrall RPG fans. Drakensang: The Dark Eye brings back epic party-based RPG gameplay in a breathtakingly detailed world, based on one of the world’s biggest pen & paper franchises.

With and incredible eye for detail, the world of Aventuria comes alive on the PC in state-of-the-art 3D graphics that bring to life the epic vistas and stunning variety of this one-of-a-kind fantasy world.

Drakensang: The Dark Eye is the first PC adaptation of Germany’s most popular and long-standing pen & paper RPG franchise in 10 years. In the last twenty years a thriving community of millions has grown, as the fantasy universe of Aventuria has been expanded in books, boardgames and a popular series of computer games. A first world-exclusive look at the game will be published by German gaming mag PC Games in the coming days.

Screenshot, I think

Pros: fucking awesome, man, another Arkania.

Cons: I don't know this company. But then again, the same went for Piranha Bites pre-Gothic.

very, very little is known now. It's supposed to have a RT-based-on-TB sucky combat system like BG, which kind of sucks, and it'll have isometric perspective, maybe, I dunno...

Never heard of the series, but that screenshot looks pretty good. Hopefully they put as much effort into the gameplay.

But wheres the High Dnynamic Range Lighting?

Can i play it on my Xbox 360?

:freak:

Seriously though, from what i can see on the site, this looks to be something special. The setting looks nice and established, and the character sheets are an interesting read. The screenshot indeed looks great. Sadly, Q4 next year is a rather long wait, and so it will be a while before I am excited.

Wow, that screenshot looks great.

And the game does sound intriguing, hopefully it's as good as it made out to be.

i wouldnt have minded the screenshot to be less flashy... i tend to grow cautious around screenshots that look *teh shiny* for the kids to drool over.

anyhow, this might be interesting (if they stay true to their past instead of selling out like so many before them).

the site itself is rather unusual. while it doesnt really grab me, you see it's something alternative & out of the ordinary. hopefully they can implement this in their games as well, not just the artwork.

A-HA!

On Topic: Maybe you guys are seeing something I'm not, but I don't really see anything to be too excited about. It seems to be pretty much Baldurs Gate 3D, and I never really thought much of BG.

I really don't think this game will be overly great, however, that screenshot is quite good.

I definitely agree this is like BG, and I thouht BG was not a great game at all....

An BG in 3D would make my day.

BG was fun but to little choices that really had a impact on the story.

If they fix that the game will be great.

As for the series: "Das Schwarze Auge" (The Dark Eye) is the most popular (or at least the most sold) German P'n'P system.
I played it myself for a while. Since the world, the continent Aventuria, exists for 23 years now, there is a pretty large background available for the games.
The game world is pretty standard fantasy, but well constructed nonetheless.
I never touched one of the video games, though.

The game you want exists and is called "Neverwinter Nights", so I guess you can consider your day made.

Christ almighty, no. BG is so much better than that turd. Say what you will about it, but BG still has a special place in my otherwise cold, black, and cynical heart.

Now, now, no need to insult BG by comparing it to the worst RPG of the decade.

By my resoning, BG WAS the worst RPG of the decade, and insults the entire genre by being called one, by paving the way for BioWare to be recognized for something it shouldn't. It instilled munchkinism and destroyed any sense of RPG design in favor of crackheaded gameplay, on the crutch of the D&D license, which now has the media and fanboys sucking their ass at how "innovative" they are to the genre, when they haven't developed a single CRPG, ever.

Gold Box had far better design behind it.

As for this game being BG in 3D, the originals were taken from the P&P ruleset, and were some decent if slow TB combat - which I think some Fallout developer noticed as the game was released by Sir-Tech for the US, and made it so that certain elements could be sped up without otherwise harming the integrity of the game. So think Realms of Arkania but with a facelift, as it should be, which is how I hope the new developer treats RoA4..

roflmao

Im sorry, just giving my first impression on something i know nothing of.
Hope it will be good enough all the same.
Ill be sure to check it out sometime again.

It's cool man, I was just fucking with you.

Edit - this game does look pretty cool though. Doubt I'll be able to run it on my computer. :(
