DVD to iPod Video

I guess this goes here, seems to be the only reasonable area.

Anywho, does anyone here have an iPod Video, and has successfully converted a DVD movie or episode to a file ready for use on the iPod Video? I have tried a few different programs, with varying degrees of success. The files need to be mpg4 files, the only type the damn iPod seems to agree with.

I am currently using THIS procedure, with little issues. I am just looking for a single, free program to get a DVD movie/episodes to a mpg4 file in one go.

What do you use?
 
God, 500-700? Thats pathetic. Apple needs to switch to divx.

Also, to make your life easier, use winamp for the transfers, it's much more forgiving and effective than itunes, and also allows you to take files from your ipod and put it on your pc. It also gives you more flexibility over formats for audio files and whatnot.
 
OK, thanks guys, I'll try anything at the moment, it's pissing me off having all these programs that only work sporadically.
