Easter Eggs (Fallout) in other Media.

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
I was watching this really bad WW2 movie the other night called SS Doomtrooper and when they first showed the doomtrooper in action I immediately though Super Mutant. I mean it was a large hulking creature, light blue nearly green, bare chested and with a large gun attached to one arm. But that's not what made the connection it was the movement, I swear the animation is virtually identical to the Super Mutant frm and cutscene.

The plot might of been out of Wolfenstein but the creature was a Super Mutant, the visual effects guys had to of played Fallout.

This made me think what other influences Fallout might of had on other media.

Like in the movie Van Helsing, when he drops the solar device and they cut to an external shot showing the light streaming out of the windows it could of been an extended cutscene for the Cathedral.

Anyone got any others?

You mean like the Vault 13 door in Starcraft and the trifoil barrels in Torment? Or only cinematographic stuff?

Anything, well other than Arcanum.

In the demo for FEAR there was an energy weapon that fired a purple ray and had an x-ray effect before vaporizing the target, was that a Fallout homage or back to the old WB cartoons?

How about the Nemesis from Resivelypse... I mean, big, ugly, leather jacket, heavy boots, rocket launcher and Minigun to his arm...

Umm, yeah... except that Mad Max came first. All of those movies were pre-Fallout. Actually, there's a homage to the Mad Max movies in both Fallout and Fallout 2. In Modoc, if you dress in a leather coat (to look like Max) there's a dog that will follow you around. And have you ever heard of Dogmeat? He's been in both games.

Sorry, I'm lousy at catching sarcasm in print. No very good at making it, either, if the truth be known.

A Fallout reference...on The Simpsons?

For those of you here that aren't yet too cynical yet to watch The Simpsons, there's an interesting thing to see in a recent episode.

In the Treehouse of Horror show for the year 2006 (darned if I know what season that is) there's a Simpsons spoof of Orson Welles's legendary reading of War Of The Worlds on the radio back in 1938, and how people actually came to believe that the Martians were coming.

Well, in true Simpsons style, the Martians did arrive and laid waste to everything. In the very final scene, there's a shot showing the town of Springfield in ruins, and what song suddenly starts playing? "I Don't Wanna Set The World On Fire" by the Ink Spots...the song the Fallout developers originally intended to use for the Fallout intro.

That's it for my moment of geekiness. Enjoy.

Fallout references on television shows

I was watching an episode of E.R. on DVD today and I noticed a couple of Fallout references (I'm sure they were unintended).

There's a character whose name is Lynette and she has a striking resemblance to First Citizen Lynette from Vault City.

Then a couple of moments later, there's a shot of Jerry in front of some messageboard that has a message on it stating "Hub Caps".

I guess all this Fallout 3 murmur is making me go mad with anticipation :P

Merging with thread that was like 3 threads down.

Can anyone verify this, btw? Episode name, number, plot?

In the pink panther (the lame one with steve martin) During is a soccer game in the beginning there is a person wearing an interesting shirt. It is solid blue with a yellow nuclear symbol. This made me think of fallout right away. I tried to get a picture of it a while back so I could post it here but my computer was not cooperating.

Season 5, Episode 106 - The Storm (part two)

The Lynette character is a fixture in season 5 though, but the "Hub Caps" message is what set me off.

Well, hubcaps by themselves aren't a reference to Fallout. I'd expect something more, such as equating hubcaps with bottle caps.

But it's not a Fallout reference, is it?

You watched that movie?

I never saw it, but based on what I knew from previews I figured it be one of those childishly, terrible childrens movies, but with the exception of being done even more terrible besides being meant for children.

You own Milo. You seriously own to have sat through that and not gone into a blind rage/mindless stupor.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

I doubt it was intentional but who knows, maybe it was...

Ya, I'm not going to lie, it sucked. I reluctantly agreed to watch it with my younger sibling a while back...
