Water Chip? Been There, Done That
Font by the name of "Gothic 821 Condensed BT" (aka Fallout font) just received its Eastern European brother. DJ. Slamak of Vault of the Future made this improved version of popular font. It has special characters in use by Central Europe and Baltic codepages.

I've tested it with Serbian Latin, Croatian and Slovenian code pages and it works like a charm.

Now, blant talk time... Gothic 821 is not the only font used in Fallout. One other font is making an appearance there; you can see it in action in character creation screen. I think NMA was the first site to make this font available online, thanks to Chris Taylor. Sadly, he could not give me that other font :( Luckily, Xotor made a program which could potentially fix the problem; it's located in download section.
 
Á propos, I've been wondering. Are there any rules on the usage of the Latin or Cyrillic alphabet in Serbia? From what I've seen (images on TV here and there), it seems like everyone writes with whichever alphabet they want...

Also, is the Serbian Latin orthography any different from Croatian?
 
from what I know, Serbian latin, Cro and slovenian are the same shit

we don't have any rools, if you mean by any computer standards. MS is trying to force it's own codepage, we have something different, and many are using just plain cyrilic fonts that is available.

I myself am forcing MS standards :)
 
Good. I'll probably be able to use that nice GIF as reference as to how the dialogue fonts work and update the dialogue font I made. That and probably reference the unicode strings he used given they work as expected...

I was thinking which is more 'official' and whether there are any rules determining when Cyrillic should be used in public or when not.

Does that mean you're making an enhanced version of Fallouty? 8) I can send you the font bitmaps from the Czech translation of Fallout to see what some of the special letters look like.
 
oh, no.. the goverment made a policy recently that all official gov institutionas and firms should use latin as default, but there was a great "rebbelion" against this. I think this is the default policy still, but as I can see, no one is using it. No, we don't stick with cyrilic only, we're using two languages, with both lating and cyrilic.

i think germans did something similar, because their language is hard for buisness, may be wrong though

Yeah, I remember having heard about the dispute over 'ß' vs. 'ss'. IIRC it got solved, but it didn't really please everyone. Of course, I can't remember how exactly they solved it... :)

Ehehehe, it actually happened in the middle of my second year of school, including German, so that I'd been learning to use the ß where the ss is correct.

I think ss is used in all cases now in German, but I'm not sure.

And of course, nobody is doing it.
 
Yep. They didn't ask any of the really important questions, like what his middle name is. I had to ask him myself.

That'd be great! I didn't think anyone had already worked on (even a bitmap version of) them.

If you could also fuind me a Russian version that'd be great (if there is one... them Russians are Fallout freaks but I have a hard time communicating with them not speaking their language or anything remotly east-european...
 
Yeah, there is a Russian version (made by TeamX, AFAIR), and also a Polish version of that font.

By TeamX? That would make it the 3rd Russian translation of Fallout in existence :o Since, if I'm not mistaken, FO (at least FO2) was published by 2 companies in Russia and each had its own translation...

I might be mistaken after all, though.
