EVE Online

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
Orderite
I just started playing this a few days ago, and must admit, it's the type of MMO that I've been craving. I'm sick and tired of WoW, and all of the different flavours of WoW (ie: Conan).

Anybody else play this?

Well now... guess this thread is effectively dead.

Thanks for killing it so....gently.

I have played eve for like 2 years and i got 4 characters on it...

Fighting the northern war at the moment on the side of Morsus Mihi 8-)

I actually played this for a little while. Definitely a very different sort of game. Takes a more patient, focused sort of person to progress in EVE. Only reason I stopped playing was having no one to play with (the reason I've stopped playing every MMO game I've started really).

That and the inescapable griefers.

Only played it for a couple of evenings during my free trial.

I liked it a lot.

Would probably play it if I wasn't so busy with the o-so-tedious-game "real life".

It takes for ever and I never seem to level ...

Only MMO I ever played was UO, and that was as a Beta tester, then after launch.

Found out that on a 56K modem, and not being able to play 24hrs a day, I didn't have a chance.

is this multiplayer excel or do you have to have some fast eye-to-hand-coordination to pwn? looks a lot like an rts with (perhaps) rpg elements. looks fine tho, and seems to be still successful after 5 years. well, ive had my BOUT with wow, and i dont want to start again with this momorpuger shit. i guess.

i LOVED those retards. easy to troll, flamebait, and even easier to pwn. farming s2 made sense after all. ofc, there are always 2 or 3 kids that are actually good in pvp - but this normally ends in the whole server vs them, and sooner or later they disappear OR get mature and either join a guild or become legendary on their own. hi rhagnos!

I'm playing EVE online at the moment, and I have to tell you that this was the first MMO game I ever tried and I wasn't expecting much... But I used my 14 days Trial and now I payed for an account, and the game is a real good game.

For those that may want to know:
It's a persistent universe, where your character skills are what matter the most and because of that you have to get you char on a 24/7 training schedule, because if you don't you will be left behind...
The most interesting aspect, but also the most dangerous is the player interaction. You get to know people from a lot of different places and help each other to achieve common goals, but you also have to be watching your back constantly, never trusting too much on the other players!

If you guys are curious about EVE, just try the free 14 day Trial.
But read the player guide first. It can help you avoid noob mistakes. And also be careful when chasing thieves, they usually steal from noobs just to make them angry and squash them like bugs after they react... Usually with some noob killer friend backing him up!

Probably never tried EVE or even a "real" MMO. I know I was skeptical about MMO's and now after 3 weeks playing EVE I'm addict to it!
But please beware, that I already found out that even 30 year old guys can act like children on EVE... The CEO of the Corporation I was until yesterday proved that to everyone that was online and was reading his unstoppable ranting...

My 14 day trial ended recently, and I decided to keep playing, as it's totally different from the never ending grind for better gear that is WoW.

I'm quite enjoying it now, although there is a steep learning curve.

I've had an account for almost 3 years now, but it's been inactive for the past 8 months or so. Like any other mmo, it can get old, especially if you don't have a solid social group to run with.

I'd still endorse it pretty solidly, though-- the training system makes it easy to reach decent proficiencies, while still requiring a firm investiture of time and resources to truly specialize or excel. The amount of player freedom is almost unparallelled in an MMO-- my roommate, also an ex-player, spent months on end just scanning for other players' hidden, unattended ships so he could steal them and process them for ore.

The learning curve is definitely punishing at times, and players of most space sims will probably find the lack of twitch combat aggrivating, but any game where a well-designed Frigate-class setup can take down a battleship is okay by me. And it just keeps getting more expansive. They've got nearly enough high-level specializations on offer now to choke you if you're not careful. Plus, the fact that the entire game is made to run- and generally pretty smoothly- on a single server means that you've actually got a chance to make a name for yourself, at least in whatever quadrant you call home.

played (paid) for 1½ months, all I'm doing is improving skills, got 2 million skill points now(which is nothing). I go online just to switch skill training. I don't give a shit about PvP and you can't really do anything else in EVE so this game sucks for me. I got like 2 months gametime left so I'm just skilling until it's out :P

I discovered EVE after it had been out for a while. I decided not to bother as I find it discouraging when there is no possibility to be on the TOP of the food chain. Starting a brand new MMO always seems more exciting to me. Most are just as much of a noob as you and are all competing on the same level.

As for those that have not found anyone to play EVE with, I'm confused. In the many MMO's that I have played I acquired friends, many of which I still interact with to this day. With that said, I can only assume EVE has more content that involves the single player.

EvE is notorious for having poor single player content. It's all about the PvP.

Also, the reason you don't make friends as easily is because the following are the top rules of EvE:

1: Don't trust anyone.

2: Do. Not. Ever. Trust. Anyone.

3: There is no such thing as a fair fight.

4: If it's too good to be true, it is.

5: If you're in a corp, learn where the CEO lives in real life.

6: The only time and place you're ever 100% safe is while you're docked in a station.

7: Stay out of Jita on the weekends.*

8: Always make sure your clone is up-to-date.

9: You'll never get anywhere with a single character on a single account.

10: There is no manual. You are on your own.

* Jita is the biggest trade hub in EvE. On any given time, there are (on average) 600 players in the system. A veritable hive of scum, villainy and lag. Lots and lots of lag.

These are probably the top two reasons I quit playing. Any game that requires you to be so serious you need to know where the leader of your guild/corp/whatever is in RL is just too much.

And I heartily dislike juggling multiple characters.

Also, the fact that pretty much everyone is looking to take advantage of you in some way is just sad and irritating to me. I'm sure there's lots of people who enjoy that element, but I get tired of it quickly.

Dude, you've convinced me to try it out. Now I can share my hatered of people with a server full of nihilistic shutins like myself.
