Fairly weird Fallout 3 screens, Chapter two.

When I first saw the screens I thought the guy was a chick with a ponytail. The shadow on the building behind his head fits perfectly.

The screens do look like shit. Since it's Oblivion's engine, I knew human faces would look like shit but what's with that mutant's Captain America chin?

I assume the red spots all over the screen are blood? Well I don't like em.

I don't think the mutant is wearing an actual helmet. It looks more like some kind of strap with stuff on it. I think it's just that his bald head is dark for some reason so it looks like he has a helmet on. What's ridiculous is it looks like there is an ear piece and a mic on it. (probably isn't but it looks like it)

BTW, the gun is actually something I like. It's beefy and loosely inspired by AK-47. I'd like to see less fatmans and laser pipes and more fictional weapons that have slight resemblances to the real stuff.

automated bethsoft hate response seriously though this uninspired bethsoft shite kills me

You just have to look at the F2 talking heads to know that BI didn't want mutants to look like that.

...and it's not the fact that we're saying mutants *can't* wear helmets, we're saying it looks shit.

Looks like an AK-74 to me.
*sigh*

ok, for the record:

things that do look like the AK (be it AK47, AKM or AK74):
- magazine, which is actually generic even in the real world, used by a rather wide array of guns.
- magazine release, hallmark for a kalshnikov rifle.
- general shape, from FAR FAR AWAY.

things that are not at home on an AK:
- safety moved slightly back and no longer visually locks the bolt forward.
- gasport moved forward, creating a more Galil-esk (or even AK107/AK108) feel.
- RPD (Ruchnoy Pulemet Degtyarova) furniture on the front grip.
- big hunchback on the front of the receiver, with the rear sight mounted on it. unheard of in any AK configuration, inspiration likely lies with the RPD again.
- very weird and very badly AA'ed line beneath the barrel, which i can only assume it is the cleaning rod. it however does not run parallel to the barrel, as it would on an AK.

so sorry, but your opinion is based on "DURRRRRRR, EVIL BLACK ASSAULT RIFLE! MUST BE AN AK, DURRRRRRRR!"
as said before, it's not that simple and that's a good thing.

I'm convinced.

Firstly,

It's green.

And I thought it was an AK74 because it's green. In the context of the game it would make more sense if it was a Chinese rip off of a post modern kalash.

"DURRRRRRR, EVIL BLACK ASSAULT RIFLE! MUST BE AN AK, DURRRRRRRR!" That quote is always coming back to haunt me. I'm sorry, I didn't know we had a senior AK47 genealogy analyst in the room.

I stand corrected, it's probably just a generic galil\AK fantasy rifle.

Lest we forget,

couldn't help myself..

It's pretty apparent Bethesda can't get over the armor system from Oblivion, and so everybody has to be wearing ugly pauldrons and ugly helmets.

I think the ugliness (in terms of pixelization and general uncleanliness... obviously the ugh character art that Bethesda is renowned for is just how it is, not to mention poorly done animations (though of course you can't see that)) comes from the original shots just being poor quality. From other screens, I don't think the actual game looks that... well, as BN put it, 2k2.

Speaking of character art, I remember creating a character when I finally got a chance to play Oblivion...I spent at least a half hour to a full a hour trying to create a character that wasn't downright butt-ugly. I never managed to succeed, so I created the least hideous-looking character I could and just started the game.

What's up with Bethesda's inability to create characters that don't look like they were hit with the ugly stick early and often in their lives?

Go for chicks. Make their nose pointy and small. That's sexy. Go for small mouth and work on the cheeks too. You should be fine to go. Dark elves work the best for me, though High Elves can look nice too. Forge the imperial, they all look the same unless you use facegen (which requires modding). OR go for guys and don't mind the looks at all...

Don't you know?
Ugly is realistic.

Yeah, I spent that half-hour or so on a female avatar. I think I was a dark elf. Didn't work, though. Eventually I found a helmet in the game and my face was covered up anyway.

You mean ugly is imursive.
