Fallout 1,2 box set question v.s. win2000

First time out of the vault
Anyone know if the jewel case set containing both fallouts lets you install fallout 1 normally on Win2000? I can get fallout 1 to work once doing the manual install but only once. If I try to play again a message pops up that there is not enough space :cry: (I remember when the humongous install was humongous! My first computer only had 4gigs 8)
I noticed someone else posted this problem but no reply.

I think I might have figured out a problem. I have been playing morrowind recently since bloodmoon came out and the game was crashing constantly. So wandering the web i found out that sound cards that use ESS tech. were causing that problem. So i switched to the motherboard soundcard /motherboard is a gigabyte GI81000 pro. sound card uses Avance AC97 audio. I also reinstalled direct x 9. Morrowind doesn't crash and fallout 1 works fine again. :D

direct x or ESS not sure wich one worked. But i jump up and down with glee anyhoo.

That`s completely new to me and very interesting , i`ll have to check what really is then, but thanks for telling us that, Interplay support sucks and there are a few issues that we don`t know how to help those that come here, that surely helps..
Thanks again.

I've had lots of soundcard problems. I recently installed creative's Audigy, only to learn that it doesn't jive with the motherboard. Something to do with the Dual BIOS, and ACPI compatability. you can read about that here,

http://dmzweb3.europe.creative.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=88,E=0000000000001723823,K=9156,Sxi=1,Case=obj(5005),VARSET=centric:205,Kb=creative_cli_en

Since I didn't feel like turning off the ACPI and reinstalling windows I just took the sound card back. Also since I had no idea what ACPI was i looked that up too.

Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) is an open industry specification that defines a flexible and extensible hardware interface for the system board. Software designers use this specification to integrate power management features throughout a computer system, including hardware, the operating system and application software. This integration enables Windows 2000 to determine which applications are active and handle all of the power management resources for computer subsystems and peripherals.

ACPI design is essential to take full advantage of power management and Plug and Play in Windows 2000. If you are not sure if your computer is ACPI-compliant, check your manufacturer's documentation. To change power settings that take advantage of ACPI, use Power Options in Control Panel.

So it looks like the only soundcards I can use that jive with the motherboard or any games is Turtle Beach and Hercules both very expensive. blah.
This motherboard sound card seems pretty good though, It's even 5.1 compatible. Guess i should have listend to my motherboard all along :roll:

I'v got the same problem, with fallout 2. When I try to start the game it says: "at least 20 meg. of free hard disc space needed" or something like that.

I posted the problem, but no reply. So I decided to try here.

Did you consider clearing up enough diskspace so you have 20 Megs free? Duuuh....

remaining hard disc space: approx 10 gigs

I figured it out, with a little help from falloutmaster on the interplay forum.

You just have to add the line free_space=0 into the file like this

[sound]
music_path1=C:\Program Files\Interplay\Fallout\data\sound\music\
music_path2=D:\data\sound\music\

[system]
critter_dat=C:\Program Files\Interplay\Fallout\critter.dat
critter_patches=C:\Program Files\Interplay\Fallout\data
master_dat=C:\Program Files\Interplay\Fallout\master.dat
master_patches=C:\Program Files\Interplay\Fallout\data
art_cache_size=261
free_space=0

Helped me out!
