Fallout 1 good and bad

I know there have been lots of comments about what's bad about Fallout Tactics and quite a few on what's bad about Fallout 1, but what did you think was wrong with Fallout 1? Or how could Fallout 1 be improved?

For me, I didn't like the fact that characters could not wear armor. It was also somewhat too short.

And for me, I didn't like the fact that you couldn't make Dogmeat leave the party whilst snooping around the Cathedral.
Oh and also that it was too short. Kind of. :)

>but what did you think was wrong with Fallout 1?

One word: Ian. :( It's only a major problem at the beginning of the game, since you're too weak to handle solo fighting and a stray shot or two could end your adventure before it even begins.

>Or how could Fallout 1 be improved?

Problem solved in Fallout 2. They removed Ian. LOL.

I was mildy frustrated at the way that characters often talked about things you haven't done or completed. For example, when you could ask Aradesh about rescuing Tandi before she had been kidnapped. But what was very good were the 'scripted' moments, like in Junktown if you stay a night at the hotel... Why did they get rid of those in FO2?

I agree, the script for Fallout 1 was much better than in Fallout 2. Although in Fallout 2 you did have that dialogue with the fellow who tries to commit suicide at NCR. It's one of the many things that is so bad about Tactics- lack of dialogue.

I thought the worst NPC was the girl you pick up in the LA Boneyard. She kept shooting my characters.

I thought Fallout 1 was great, and i never had trouble with NPCs cuz i never used them! I once got Ian to try out NPCs, and i gave him a SMG. BIG MISTAKE. I ended up getting wasted not by gizmo in Junktown, but by Ian. I reloaded, and then pumped Ian full of shotgun shells=) Well anyways, my only qualm with fallout is it was too short and the NPCs for the most part stink ('cept for the ALWAYS useful dogmeat). Now if you want NPCs, try fallout 2. Marcus in Broken Hills = TERROR UPON ENCLAVE SOLDIERS.

>Marcus in Broken Hills =
>TERROR UPON ENCLAVE SOLDIERS.

Actually:

Marcus in Broken Hills = CANNON FODDER UPON ENCLAVE SOLDIERS!

I don't know what you folks find so great about Dogmeat....

The mutt always ends up getting killed from massive damage; if not sooner then later.

And that goes to both Fallout 1 and 2.

Nope!! That's only you. Marcus is one of my best party Member just like Robo and Cassidy. Cannon Fodder? Yeah! Marcus didn't wore armour right!! Well that's what Myron used for!! (as forward Cannon Fodder and to create Super Stims)....
BTW Fallout 2 got's better Party members....

"Boss? Gunnar staring at me again....."

Well to tell you the truth, i never played through a full game of fallout 1 or fallout 2. In fact, i never even used Marcus as an NPC, since well im kick ass w/o ne one=) But ne ways the only reason i said Marcus rocked is cuz he looks kick ass. I mean really, a giant supermutant with a minigun, need i say more? Well yes i do, cuz in reality, without armor, marcus would most likely get wasted on the Enclave Oil Rig (electronic trap doors, etc. Oh yah dont forget Horrigans end boss sword that does 20 damage to someone who has AVDANCED POWER ARMOR MK. frickin 2 on) I shudder to think what would happen to Marcus... I also only used dogmeat in FO1, but he was a good boy. Ripped right through Decker=)

''Nope!! That's only you.''

HA! Only me? Go ahead and throw Marcus at an Enclave member with a Vindicator Minigun, or Guass Rifle, or some such powerful weapon and see what happens.....Exactly what I thought, Marcus would get iced fast; in what? 2 or 3 turns?

''that's what Myron used for!!''

A useless trash-mouth whom is only useful at creating items.

''BTW Fallout 2 got's better Party
members....''

Since I already knew this long long long time ago, Are you just finding that out? And it doesn't mean anything because you and your group'll still get toasted easily.

>I don't know what you folks find so great about Dogmeat....

Well, Dogmeat is a rather lousy NPC in terms of combat support. But having him makes you appear to be a cool, tough, loner who doesn't take crap from nobody. Mad Max had Dog in "The Road Warrior." Shadow had Interceptor in Final Fantasy III(US).

"Leave us. The dog eats strangers." --Shadow "Final Fantasy III"
