Fallout 1 tech help

First time out of the vault
I've posted a couple other places, but no one has responded to those at all yet, so this is a new topic for my issues

Firstly, I have the same graphics glitch that other Windows 7 users have where some of the graphics are discolored, but I cannot find the solution that these people used.

Also I've tried using the High-Res patch, but I can't even find where the "SCRN" button is even supposed to be. It says it's accessed from the options menu at the main menu, but I don't even see an "Options" button on the main menu at all.

help with either of these would be greatly appreciated

What solution are you looking for exactly?

If you don't see the options button you are either using an old version of the hi_res mod, or you didn't install it properly.
After you've moved the files to your Fallout folder you need to run f1_res_patcher.exe before it's installed.

one which will correct the colors to not be discolored, weather it's a setting I can do on my computer or a patch

hmmmm I'll check to see if it was the newest version and try again

I have the same problem with the color disorder. Any suggestions?
I have found a slightly tedious but working temporary solution:

start up the game, press CTRL + ALT + DEL and select "Start Task Manager"
Go to the "Processes" tab
Find "Explorer.exe" and end it (right click -> end process)

DON'T PANIC when your taskbar disappears!

Go to the "Applications" tab
Click on Fallout and select "Switch To"

Play the game, the colors should be fixed

When you are done, quit the game
In the Task Manager in the "Applications" tab, select "New Task"
Type "Explorer.exe" into the box that pops up

Now you should have your taskbar back

I found it simpler to go back to XP. It feels like this site out of all places should have faqs for these kind of problems that are caused by new operating systems.

So you just ran it in Compatibility mode and the problem went away? May I ask which XP service pack version as it didn't work when I tried

I can't even begin the install process for Fallout 1....says "Sorry, but this product is not supported by this version of Windows.". I'm not too sure how to get it to install at all and haven't ran accross any answers online. Help please? Thanks in advance.

Also, just set your desktop background to "solid colors" and then right click the desktop and open "screen resolution", leave that open and start up fallout...works perfectl;y for Fallout 2. No rainbow color glitch.

I have Windows 7 Professional. On the start bar search for "compatibility mode". You then can select an application you want to run in compatibility mode. I just chose Win 95/98 compatibility mode and it installed just fine (The colors are still messed up though).

Hope that helps?

Edit: just noticed you said you have Windows 7 Home edition. I don't think there is a compatibility mode for that version sorry.
