Fallout 2 How to Use Mods

I am trying to play fallout 2 with mods, but i have no idea how to do it. I got the mod runner from this website, but every time i try to use a mod it tells me that it can not save patch0000.dat

I need a simple explanation of what i should do

Check to see if you have the patch in the folder first. Most mods make changes to the patch file. If it isn't there, the mods generally don't work.
