Fallout 2 music not working with Windows 7.

Radar E 33

First time out of the vault
Can't catch a break with this OS. Anyway, I have edited my fallout 2.cfg file so that the command paths are correct.

However, i am getting no music. I have ensured that the music files are all installed. There shouldn't be any reason why this is not working.

Here is the information in my .cfg file:

[sound]
music_path1=DATA\SOUND\MUSIC\
music_path2=DATA\SOUND\MUSIC\

[system]
critter_dat=critter.dat
critter_patches=data
master_dat=master.dat
master_patches=data
free_space=0
Language=English

This is my path to the music folder:

C:\Program Files\Interplay\Fallout Collection\Fallout2\DATA\SOUND\MUSIC

Any help would be appreciated. My computer specs have not changed since the last time I posted about music issues (the exception being i'm running Win 7 now).

I had this problem with both fallout 1 and 2 for windows vista and 7.

If I remember correctly...

You need to navigate to C:users/username/appdata/local/virtualstore/program files/interplay/fallout collection/fallout 2

In this folder there should be a .cfg file (you might need a saved game to create this file, I can't remember)

originally the music_path1 and music_path2 values were set to the full path where the music files were.

They had to be changed to the shorter version

[sound]
music_path1=DATA\SOUND\MUSIC\
music_path2=DATA\SOUND\MUSIC\

^ This worked for me so it can't hurt to give this a try

Try running it in Windows 98/XP compatibility mode. Might also help to run it as administrator. Seems to work fine for me in Windows 7 doing that.

First off, never install into program files if you are running Vista/7.

Second, are you running my unofficial patch (1.02.27.3 or above)? It and the latest version of sfall might be of assistance.

If you did the above, you actually see the audio files in the music directory, and the paths are truly set correctly in fallout2.cfg then I don't know what to say...
