Fallout 2 Vista color problem

First time out of the vault
Hello, I have searched for this issue on goggle, on these forums without any results really.

The problem is that the videos in the game have strange colors, as soon as I try to change colors to 256 or something else I get an error that says "fallout appears to be running in compatibility mode".

I have installed the unofficial patch and the resolution patch but even without these I get the same problem (I made a backup on the game before I installed the patches).

So what do I have to do?
Switching to 16 colors instead of 32 doesn't help either, I made Fallout2 run real good on XP but I cant make it work with Vista, someone who has fixed this?

PS: This is the old version of fallout 2, not the dvd or something like that.

Well if you are using killap's patch you can try to open up ddraw.ini in notepad and set it to use dx9.
Code:
[Graphics]
;Set to 0 for 8 bit fullscreen
;Set to 4 for dx9 fullscreen
;Set to 5 for dx9 windowed
;dx9 modes cause some corruption of movies
;A dx9 mode is required for any graphics related script extender functions to work (i.e. fullscreen shaders)
;Modes 1, 2 and 3 are no longer supported
Mode=0

^set Mode=0 to Mode=4

cheers

It worked!

But some things are still acting strange, the videos are acting.. odd.
And the F1 button doesnt work, This is only minor things that doesnt really affect the gameplay, all Im saying is the problem isnt solved 100%

But atleast now I can enjoy Fallout2 with better res., thanks alot mate!

Yes it does. When you push F1 the screen goes black, move the mouse and the help screen comes up.
Good to hear the other stuff worked.

Video's were fixed in sfall 1.30, but it seems the version included in your copy of killap's patch is an older version. You should be able to just replace the copy of ddraw.dll that came with the patch with the newer one if the movies bother you.

I changed the code like you said and now I get an error message. "failure initializing input devices".

Do you happen to have Windows 7. Drelmanes at GOG.com forum is experiencing same problem and he's using Win7.

He and insanity99 have been having weird graphic problem with their FO2 games. Installing sfall and setting graphics mode to 4 seem to have helped insanity99 but on Drelmanes' system it causes the same error as you are getting.

There's a list of all the common sfall problems and their solutions here. That error is the first one in the list.

As I can see, Chris has send you a PM. Any news on something? :>

nope. The PM conversation went:

Him: I'll speak to my bosses and get back to you. Anything you want me to pass on?
Me: Stuff.
Him: <Silence>.

He did his best, probably. It's just that the people actually involved don't seem to be interested. (Later on when I asked where the reply went, he said that he hadn't had a response to his e-mails and he'd get back to me the next time he had a face to face chat with someone.)

Yeah, it seems impossible to make this game work here - Stupid game.
It's no surprise that Interplay was ruined.
Well, the game was not that good anyway, so it's not a big lose.
Even Fallout 3 is better than this shit!
