Fallout 3: Are you getting it?

Stiched

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I've seen a lot of Bethesda hate around here, (for obvious reasons) but I just wanted to know, how many people are actually getting it here?

I will at some point, but don't expect to see me in front of a EB games, three days before release with a sleeping bag and a dozen six-packs of Red Bull (/unfunny joke)

PS: If this is the wrong board to post in, well, I'm sorry.

I will. Mostly because it's fallout. Todd might get it mailed to him with an angry letter after I play it.

PS I thought Canada was the 51st state? :P

I'm buying a new *PC* for Fallout 3! :D
Well, I'm more buying it for Guild Wars 2, as I could get an Xbox360 if I just wanted Fallout 3 that much. Oh, and I want to run TF2 at max graphics. And then there's Dawn of War 2. But Fallout 3's in there. Somewhere. :P

@Ah-teen
Is it scary that I read that as todd might get it NAILED to him with an angry letter? Cause that's some SERIOUS criticism.

I will be getting it as it is fallout and im hopping it will turn out right in the end (fingers crossed)

No, they're a territory!
Actually, the only I say we're a state of America is because American influence is so strong here. I have a friend who writes in 'US English' and uses slang from America despite having never been there.

Hell, I guess I'll buy it. I want to see it with my own eyes, if only to whine about it better.

I thought we knew it's not Fallout already?

Anyway, the answer is: NO.

Honestly, I see no reason to. I never liked Bethesda's games, this is not faithful to Fallout, so why should I?

A bobblehead-doll is included?

To answer the thread author, it depends on the system requirements. If my computer can pull it off, then hell yeah, I'll buy it.

I have to see if it'll run on my computer or not. If it does - i'll buy it immediately. If It doesn't, I'll wait till I can afford a new comp (gettin close to that time anyway) - then i'll buy it.

I'll probably play it but only after it has been out for a year or so. I'll wait until Bethesda is done patching it and unofficial modders have modded the hell out of it. (Bethesda games are buggy - unofficial Oblivion patch fixes over 1600 bugs left after the latest official patch) I'll also play it as a potentially fun post apocalyptic game and not as a Fallout game.

I'm going to play that shit on zero day. I'm anxious as fuck, and I can't have someone on here inform my opinion on it, I need to experience it firsthand, on release day. Preodering next time I go to an EB.

I don't think it's going to be Fallout, and I don't even know if it's going to be that good. I think it'll probably be fun, but will I be able to enjoy it? I don't know, I hope I'll at least have that. Fallout means a lot to me, this is the first game for me to really mean anything. Sure, I'd had fun playing games before Fallout, but nothing drew me in quite like those first two games. I can't let this game go unplayed, not now.

Yeah.... That sounds like a better idea. Not to mention it'll be cheaper :).

Okay, new question:

Regardless of it not being a true fallout or not, do you think it will be a good game?

Me, maybe ... but apparently we are "nuts" :P

there are a lot of cons and pros i guess :)

anyway, a few years ago i wrote in another forum something along the lines of "wow what would it be like if fallout 1&2 would keep the story, the humour, the free world and all that good stuff PLUS get all the nice things system shock and deus ex have to offer". mightve been more than a few years ago, when deus ex was comparably new ~~. so here "dream" come true... we will see.

i will buy it, perhaps not at day 0. i DO think that bethesda is trying very hard to maintain some sort of equilibrium between the story (and all that is behind that story, including the fanbase) and the way they make games. i for my part thought oblivion was a mediocre game, but the engine is still great. i still hope for the best (as in "best of both worlds") - and at the same time i am TOTALLY convinced that fallout 3 will never hit me with the intensity of fallout 2 when i played it first.

I preordered it the day after it was announced (i am a fallout addict and i will take any bit of drug i can find, unfortunately that included FO: POS). I do want to way in on the FO 3 debate. I have to points that i keep in mind, the first being that games evolve just like everything else and we can't really expect a developer to hang onto game play mechanics that are unfortunately dated. Don't get me wrong i still love the turn based combat, but a game designed on these old conventions will predominantly only sell to hardcore fans(US here on nma) not necessarily to a wider audience and we have to except that a dev will choose the more financially viable option. The other thing i keep in mind is that IPlay is supposedly maintaining creative oversite on the project and will not allow any content they do not feel fits within FO.

P.S. I just wanted to add an odd observation on bethesda. The company is listed as an english software dev, wich would lead one to believe it is british however it is currently based in Rockville, MD and is called Bethesda because it started up in Bethesda, MD. Odd

Edit: in response to a PM i just received. I do not work for Beth or any of its related companys. I am an Ordnance tech in the AirForce. I have to admit that was a quick check of alleigance as the post wasn't up for long.

Is that even remotely true? Kharn?
Before Jason Anderson came back there I doubt there was anyone to maintain this oversight.

game play mechanics that are unfortunately dated.

They are NOT dated. Not in the real sense of the word anyway... they are dated only for people who think "ZOMG, eral-time is evloushioun from tunr-based!"

This question just keeps coming up.

Am I getting it? No, I'm not. I've lost interest. Someone else will have to do the review here.

No, it isn't. Bethesda has creative rule over the Fallout MMO of Interplay, not vice versa.

To whomever did that: please don't badger our users.
