Fallout 3 Brotherhood Outcasts mod idea

Mayor of Carbon

First time out of the vault
So like many other people out there, I think that the Brotherhood Outcasts were underused and could have really brought new ideas to the series (having the traditionalist Brotherhood outcasts fight it out with the more liberal and accepting DC BOS chapter)

I'm thinking of trying to make the outcasts a faction you would actually want to visit by "borrowing" some old ideas from previous games

- Currency

All BOS Outcasts should use Scrip like in Fallout Tactics and should carry it around at all times.
Having a unique currency should naturally have people go looking for who is responsible for freshly printed greenbacks

- Outposts

Since the game depicts the Outcasts being made up of solely five dudes and a dead, disabled man, it's safe to say that they are on the backfoot when it comes the the BOS civil war. Because of this, it would probably make sense for other members to see the writing on the wall and make their own offshoots all over the capital.

-Trading

The Outcasts can't grow food in a concrete hole, so trading for resources is the best bet for survival. Obviously, they would never sell tech, so the best alternatives would be exotic items (consumables like mutie) from exotic places like Texas (the dumb blue gloves)

- Quests

There should be an option to mess with the Brotherhood or take the enclaves crap but I feel like that may be to ambitious

- What's already done

The texture for the scrip is almost complete so hopefully I can make something cool with it

please give suggestions or point out any issues with my idea so I can try to make this work

Scrip is a cool nod to Tactics, but I don’t think it really makes sense for the Outcasts. Scrip works when there’s a big, organized group behind it, like the NCR or the main cell of BOS, but the Outcasts are basically a handful of guys squatting in bunkers. Who’s gonna take their currency seriously if the main, nicer BOS are using the wasteland cap currency standard? Unless they’ve got some big trade network, wastelanders are just gonna laugh and stick with caps or straight barter. In my opinion, if you want to use scrip, maybe make it an internal thing, like how they divvy up rations or tech among themselves, but not a full-on replacement currency.

I don’t see the Outcasts setting up outposts like the main Brotherhood. They’re too small and paranoid for that. Every outpost needs guards, supplies, maintenance, etc. and they just don’t have the manpower. It makes more sense for them to have hidden stashes, something like old pre-war relay stations, or temporary hideouts they rotate through. Think more guerrilla tactics than like big flashy bases. They’re outnumbered by the DC Brotherhood, so staying invisible is their best play.

-Trading

Yeah, they need to trade since they can’t grow food, but I doubt they’d ever do it openly. Outcasts don’t want random traders knowing where they live or what they’ve got. If they do trade, I imagine they’d use middlemen or hire someone like Talon Company to handle deals. "Exotic items from Texas" sounds a bit out of place though since travel and trade between regions aren’t really a thing yet. It’d make more sense for them to trade in ammo, armor (not Power Armor), or medical supplies they can spare.

- Quests

There should be an option to mess with the Brotherhood or take the enclaves crap but I feel like that may be to ambitious
A quest that lets you mess with the main BOS or swipe Enclave gear sounds cool. They’d probably want the player’s help to do things they can’t risk themselves, like recovering tech from BOS convoys or sabotaging the Enclave quietly. That feels pretty in line with how they operate.

what about using batteries as currency? like energy cells or fusion cells
few places have the technology to power up the cells, so they trade it for food and weapons and the settlement use it to power electricity
maybe they needs light because of some specific mutant? or maybe citizen version of the energy weapons were common in DC
