Fallout 3 DLC hits Steam

I'd like to point out a slight bit of irony.

Given the cost of both a "Super Popular" title and a lot of downloadable content this should be very expensive, but due to age $50 is reasonable. Of course anyone responsible enough to wait that long is probably older having gained patience with age. Anyone that old is probably an "older" RPG fan who probably won't buy Fallout 3 no matter what out of severe disappointment and/or boycotting of Bethesda.

I know, because I am one.

Still though it would be nice to play through it all just so I know for certain my judgments are correct, but if they are I fear how that would make me feel.

Although I will admit to playing a few hours of it at some relatives house.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

I'll pick up Fallout 3 GotY edition when it hits the 10 dollar bargain bin, not before. I'm certainly not buying DLC separately at 10 USD. That's the release price, why would I pay that now?

DLC is - I said it before and I'll say it again - a scam, and the fact that they keep it at this price (not to mention they never removed or discounted Horse Armor despite admitting it was a mistake) further underlines the scammy nature. Homey don't play that.

You have to admit. It sure felt good when the DLCs were coming out one after the other.

So much diverse content, it was a delight with each new release. As fans, we just never knew if we would logon to NMA go to the news section, and read how a single DLC change everyone's mind from hating Fallout 3, to worshiping it as true sequel material.

I bet you are talking about "Mothership Zeta".

Gosh, what is it with PC players and their rampant hatred for DLC? Just because Valve gives away DLC doesn't mean everyone else has to.

Granted, stupid shit like house DLC IS a rip-off. But if it gives me a couple of hours worth of decent content, I'm cool with it.

if BN is the one that works for the game review site, then its most likely them who got the copy and the site owns it, not BN

No. Why would I? I didn't review Fallout 3 or any of its DLC for GameBanshee.

The usual hollow praise heaped on Valve has nothing to do with it. The very principle of DLC is to act as a crutch for an inherently unprofitable game industry. The existing model isn't working, and the only thing propping it up is that DLC is sold at a significantly skewed profit margin compared to full games.

You pay a much higher amount of dollar per man-hour for DLCs than for games, per definition. Sure, some DLCs are less scammy than others, but it's still just a scam, one based on the popular inability to see that 50 USD of DLC never represents the same value as 50 USD of game.

eh I'm almost 29 (don't know if thats old or young, in old school rpg gamer terms) and I liked Fallout 3, and bought Fallout 1, and 2 when they were first released. Different Strokes, Different Folks I guess.

DLC is a bit annoying nowadays though, altho its somewhat like the "mission packs" or "extra level packs" back from the Doom/Quake days, instead of 1 or 2 lump sums of cash for an expansion, they chop it up and charge 150% over what it should cost.

I agree with this, being 34 and all. It's all too little, too late. I would have bought Van Buren immediately, but Bethesda's take on things just went too far, too fast for me. I'll never buy it because to me it's not Fallout, and just like you I've played a couple of hours of it on a friend's console and it just didn't "click" with me. Didn't urge me to buy it. I don't recognize it as an RPG, it doesn't fit the format I grew up with. I wish it were different, but today's gameworld has managed to completely alienate me. I feel at home when I start up a nineties RPG or RTS with 2D graphics. When I plug into some new shit, my vision blurs and I get mental cramps. It sounds worse than it is, though. Fortunately for me, some of those nineties RPG and RTS games offer endless replayability, so I'm not complaining. I'd rather wander around the same old 2D wastelands for all eternity, then to venture into Bethesda's crappy world.

You are a liar, sir.
You got that donation on the NMA front that specifically said the money was so you could buy a copy and review it.
I remember. The Internet remembers. You can't run from your past, boy.

1) a "free review copy" is a copy sent out by the publisher, not a copy bought with a site's own funds.

2) I don't remember claiming donations would go to a review copy for that parody article, and if I did I don't really recall if I ever claimed the money from NMA to recompense, I initially bought it with my own money regardless. Also, that's Fallout 3, not any of its DLC.

When I click that donate button I get a Polish page with no option to change language or currency. Not exactly inviting. (not that I have anything against the Poles I just don't speak Polish )
