TGR is doing some coverage on Fallout 3's PS3 version. First, no mandatory install.
As part of our Fallout 3 blowout, TheGameReviews.com was able to spend some time with the latest build of Fallout 3 and have two Bethesda Software employees walk us through and answer our questions regarding Fallout 3.

While being shown the Fallout 3 universe, TheGameReviews.com asked whether or not Fallout 3 would require a Mandatory Install for the Playstation 3. Bethesda responded:

“We do not do that, no. We do the put you know, put the stuff down there that we need to be there, we can stream it on in and out of there but we do not do the ‘we need ten minutes of your time.’” They went on to explain, “We will cache the same way on both (Xbox 360 and PS3) we basically just like everybody you know if you have a hard drive, it does this.” Much like how they did Oblivion.
Second, Xbox360 and PS3 versions to be identical.
When we asked if the Playstation 3 is on par with the Xbox 360, Bethesda responded “Pretty much. There is a good way to phrase it.” When asked if they are going to be bringing in or had already brought in any people from Sony to assist they responded:

“We actually have talked to them and worked with them quite a bit. It is more just for us a case of you know we had a year head start on the 360 versus the PS3 because the Oblivion 360 version was done a year ahead of the PS3 so you know.”

He went on to explain: “It is not that the PS3 is behind it is just that we had a year longer to work on the 360 version, so that is our lead platform. So all of that stuff that we did on Oblivion is all stuff that translated nicely into what we are doing on Fallout. So at this point they are pretty much on par.”

He went further to confirm: “You know and simultaneous launch for all three platforms and you know it will be all three versions will be on par, we are not looking to have a ‘this is the best version’. If you want the best version of Fallout 3 you should buy this on X platform. We want it to be like three screens you could not tell which one is which kind of thing.”
Spotted on F3:APNB.

Right, kick ass. Well, don't want to sound like a dick or nothin', but, ah... it says on your chart that you're fucked up. Ah, you talk like a fag, and your shit's all retarded. What I'd do, is just like... like... you know, like, you know what I mean, like...

:)

j/k

atleast we wont be getting the usual "why the 360/ps3 version is better than 360/ps3" debates.

I am a bit worried about the many oblivion references ive been seeing lately. I dont want it to be oblivion updated and repackaged if you get what i mean.

but still im sure bethesda will do a good job

Take care, SB

i like how the main console is the 360 and not the pc... oh wait, no i don't. >:|

So, the PC version will have a consolish interface?

i'm assuming it's just going to be another game where they do an xbox port to pc. i'm sure every pc gamer who has played many games in the last 5 years will know exactly what i'm talking about.

Didnt they specifically say a long time ago that the PC will have a better interface transition than Oblivion?

Also, why do they say all the versions will look the same when PCs can look so much better than a console?

Those were my first thoughts as well, though mine were in a bit more of a cheeky tone.

Anyway, they're probably just talking about the graphics.
It strikes me as a bit odd though, because a high-powered PC would (or at least should) have much better visuals than consoles.

*edit*
Goddamn I'm slow.

Yes. And the PC will have a better interface. Smaller fonts, for one, but hopefully more than that. What exactly? Dunno.

But Ausir is right, that line of "yeah, they look identical" sounds bad. It doesn't convey the message they're trying to convey (which is that the game looks the same in graphic terms, no one is being screwed over for the console they own).

Developers hate picking one version as "this is the best of the ones we made". Kind of stupid, but they always avoid this subject, trying to please everyone.

Because it's being developed with 360 hardware in mind.

Guess someone lives in a complete different reality than ours.

Thats pretty much why the PC version will look better if you have a relatively new GPU, the 360 is basically just a stripped down PC running late 05/early 06 hardware. A semi decent PC built today can put out significantly better performance than the 360 is capable of in higher resolutions with more features (AA, AF)

Except that the PC is the only one that will allow you to edit the game's ini file.

I guess we know which one is the best platform then.

I guess it we're still gonna get the same old tired arguments!

Seriously why does everyone care so much, i dont care how something looks on a platform im never gonna play it on. I have a 360 and a ps3 but im gonna get it on the pc because to me it feels like a pc game, i dont care about all this "ohh the textures look slightly better on ps3" blah blah blah fallout has always been a pc game to me. i mean come on no one need mention BOS

Take care, SB
